Study: Women Spend More Time Ogling Women
UPI ^ | Dec. 1, 2012

British researchers say women are more likely than men to give women's bodies a visual once-over.

Researchers at Bristol University came to their conclusions after asking volunteers to examine a range of different images, including pictures of couples in films, The Daily Telegraph reported Friday.

They found women spent 61 percent of their time looking at the women in the pictures, and only 39 percent on the men, while men seemed to spend just over half -- 53 percent -- of their time looking at the women.

"This is counter-intuitive from a sexual perspective if you are thinking about desire, but it's not surprising if you look at it in terms of sexual competition," said Felix Mercer Mos, a computer science doctoral student who led the study. "The women might be checking out their sexual rivals and comparing themselves with them."

He noted: "That's speculation of course -- I've no proof whatsoever."

The study also found that while men concentrated on the faces of the women, women's eyes tended to roam around the whole figure.

Kate Figes, author of books on relationships, said she wasn't surprised by the study's findings.

"We are always sizing ourselves up against the competition," she said. "It's because we feel threatened. It's quite a basic animal state. I'm sure if the gender states were reversed, men would do exactly the same."

This cannot be true. They haven’t factored me into their comparison.

LOL. Not lesbians. At the risk of being arrested by the PC police, I will speculate that women are constantly comparing themselves physically to other women — they are more body-conscious than men by a long shot. So women are doing this to either confirm they look better than other women or to see if other women look better than them.

Fact is, women are jealous as sin of attractive women.

They aren't admiring them. They are hating on them.

Women look at other women more because they like to size up the competition. Hetero women don’t mind looking at or being touched by each other — quite unlike hetero men.

Also, women are more interesting to look at than men, aren’t they?

I guess Van Morrison had it about right in Wild Nights:

The wild night is calling.
And all the girls walk by
Dressed up for each other...

And here I thought I was a guy the whole time!

Yep. Some survey I saw not too long ago asked men and women to rate their looks as (1)more or less average, (2)worse than average or (3)better than average.

Among men, 80% picked average, 10% worse and 10% better. Among women, 10% picked average, 80% worse and 10% better.

It isn't reality, it is perception. Much like the American Idol crowd voting for Obama because they think he cares more about people like them. If you want somebody to care for you, hire a private nurse or get a dog.

Proves what...if you see a picture of Kate Middleton and hubby......of course a woman looks at Kate....but with no sexual connotations,.....the lovely clothes, her grace, etc...

Most testing is geared to produce a specific answer. We're not idiots..

not to worry, i’m pretty sure i’m looking at a woman’s body 100% of the time and that makes me a ...lesbian ?

"This is counter-intuitive from a sexual perspective if you are thinking about desire"

Counterintuative from a Darwinian feminist perspective, but not from a rational conservative perspective. It all goes back to capitalistic desires - maximizing shareholder returns.

Young also women ogle themselves at every opportunity. If you mounted a mirror at street level on the side of a building in Manhattan, around 90% of the young women walking by would check themselves out. They wouldn’t use the mirror as a sly way to check out if any threats are walking behind them, they would just check out themselves.
