Vanity: I'm in the market for a NEW assault rifle. Any suggestions?

Posted on 12/15/2012 10:39:03 PM PST by RC one

I already own 2 AR15s, an Uzi and an Armalite AR10 so this is nothing more than a big FU to the liberals really. I'm leaning towards a bushmaster varminter. any other suggestions.

FWIW...Bushmaster may be in big trouble; a self-inflicted wound after they paid out a sizable settlement after the DC shootings. I can't imagine the enormity of what the class action suit for this event will be.

The manufacturer and dealer of the rifle used in the Washington, D.C.-area sniper shootings agreed Wednesday to pay $2.5 million in a settlement with victims and victims' families.

The settlement with Bushmaster marks the first time a gun manufacturer has agreed to pay damages to settle claims of negligent distribution of weapons, said Jon Lowy, a lawyer with the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. He helped argue the case. He said the settlement with Bull's Eye Shooter Supply is the largest against a gun dealer.

''These settlements send a loud and clear message that the gun industry cannot turn a blind eye to how criminals get their guns," Lowy said.

Bushmaster Firearms of Windham, Maine, agreed to pay $550,000 to eight plaintiffs. Bull's Eye Shooter Supply of Tacoma, where the snipers' Bushmaster rifle came from, agreed to pay $2 million.

Well, an AK is a logical choice. You can opt for the 7.62x39 original or the 5.45x39 current version.

Rigid stock or folding stock. Stamped or milled receiver. Russian, Bulgarian, Czech, Romanian, Chicom or other variants.

Heck get one of each and start a collection.

I have a SCAR17 and would not trade it for any other rifle.

I have 2 AR-15s too. A Colt A2 and a Bushmaster M4. The Bushmaster is flat earth with Magpul furniture and is sweet. I've been toying with the idea of getting a .22LR AR-15 to play with. The Mossberg below has a MSRP fo just over $400. Street price probably around $325 or so. A lot less expensive to shoot than .223/5.56.

I hear that guns and ammo were just flying out of our local sporting goods store today. I don’t know if its been that way every day, but it sure was today.

I was in my favorite gun store yesterday 20 minutes after it opened. It's a very LARGE store with 20+ lanes for target practice.

I got one of the last two parking spots in the lot when I arrived. There was a LINE to have FOID pictures taken. Every gun shop employee was busy with customers looking at firearms. I waited almost 30 minutes to get help looking at a new compact 9mm for my wife.

The ammo shelves were already half-empty as I replenished my supply of 9mm and .308's. Picked up a bucket of .223, and three high capacity magazines for my HnK USP9.

Since Illinois now *HAS* to pass a conceal/carry law per a Federal Appeals Court last week, I was also looking for a holster for my HnK USP9 and a holster for my wife's 380, figuring it's best to pick those up NOW than after the law finally passes and everyone wants them.

Spent 2 hours total in the store, by the time I walked out cars were circling the lot looking for parking spaces. It was a MAD HOUSE. Every time these stupid Democrats start talking gun control, everyone seemingly heads for the gun shops.

[ You are now my favorite Freeper (sorry Laz)]

Laz is laying low for awhile because of his post a few days ago identifying the wrong shooter in the school massacre.

It’s always good to have a backup fav.

I’m looking myself and I’m looking at the Mosin Nagant 91/30 at Bud’s for just $119. 7.62 x 54R is the only drawback, although I think Hickok said you can get 500 rds for under $100, and that surplus military ammo is plentiful. That would get a person a rifle and 2000 rounds for around $500.

Build an AR yourself. It is not difficult to do. Then you can have exactly the weapon you want ... Well not really, you will probably keep changing things and playing. It is very important to keep changing your mind about what you exactly want. AR’s are like Barbies for men.

That’s the problem we have with my son’s AK. You have to wear gloves to shoot it much at the range.

What’s an assault rifle?

According to the media, anything with a barrel and a trigger attached to it.

I’ve got a M91/30. It can definitely reach out there.

Surplus ammo from aimsurplus.com typically runs about $80 for a 440 round spam can.

Military C&R guns are some of the most overlooked values out there. (I love my CZ-82. It’s my favorite EDC. $200)

"I had an AR-15 in 7.62x39 special order from Colt..."

Yep... except the magazines will cost you both arms and a leg.

Back then I had money to burn. I burned most of it at the range.

OK, so you own some anodized aluminum and plastic.

How about you look at a real rifle? Made of nothing but heat-treated steel and walnut?

Go look at a M1A.

I suggest that you not use that term because it isn't accurate unless you do all the stuff for legal ownership of a class III weapon.

Instead you might say "AR-15", etc, not that they're the same thing.

If "Assault rifle" is the wrong term for them, it's the wrong term for us. Conversely, if we use the term we're providing a definition for them.

Just sayin'.
