What is with conservative talking heads caving in on the Second Amendment? Vanity
12/18/12 | Keith Brown

Posted on 12/18/2012 5:56:48 AM PST by Keith Brown

So yesterday I heard Michael Medved on the radio (noon pacific time) and he was beating up on "assault" weapons and gun makers who were only selling to make a "profit..."

He was literally going down the liberal anti gun line... then when a few callers took him to task on it he talked over them and hung up.

Then there was O' Reilly on Fox who started off with a good talking point, but then started whipping on the stuttering 2nd Amend foundation guy (Gottleib? .... not a good showing for him).

Neither so called conservative host voiced the affirmative uses of guns in contemporary times.

Its terrible to see the so called conservative voices folding under pressure...but to see them turn on a core values such as gun ownership does not bode well.

I hope others see more positive representations out there but I am not seeing it.

It seems we need to remind these folks who pays their bills.

Thoughts?

Krauthammer is right on that. I suspect the Dems overreaching on this is going to be the thing that allows the GOP to keep the House in 2014.

O’Reilly is a moron. Last night he said he was a “2nd Amendment guy”, proceeded to get different guns confused and embarrassed himself, and excused it by then saying, “I’m not a gun guy.” He said we need to sacrifice for the kids and tighten the gun laws.

This morning, Gretchen Carlson on Fox & Friends said she just doesn’t understand why anyone “needs” to own an assault rifle.

It’s like an avalanche now, and these fools don’t see anything wrong with the fact that they are agreeing with Communist China on gun control in America. All of this is a purely emotional response, and I for one am getting sick of it. When I heard that Dick’s Sporting Goods in Newtown had removed their guns, I turned off the TV before my head could explode. What——now the people in CT will be traumatized by the mere sight of a gun?

You're forgetting Medved’s real claim to fame: film critic and author of the wonderful “Golden Turkey Awards,” which he wrote with his brother.

He also wrote a book about Hollywood's descent into cruelty and sexuality. It was very good. I forget its title.

The abolishment of the 2nd Amendment will bring civil war to this country.

In today's dumbed down American Idol culture I would not count on it. Maybe my circle of friends is too small and the wrong folk, but I know very few that are willing to fight and die for their liberties.

No one has risen up against the MARXIST regime that took over our Fed Govt in 2006 with Harry and Nancy leading the way for Baraq. Where have the million man marches been held? Not even enough conservatives, RINOS, "Blue Dog" Reagan Democrats, and undecideds got up off their lazy buts to throw this buffoon out of the White House (that he is illegally occupying). Zero's certification can still be stopped when the Congress meets to ratify the election results - BUT NO ONE WILL DARE MAKE THE OBJECTION for fear of the media and Boner reprisals.

Objecting to the Counting of One or More Electoral Votes.
3 U.S.C. § 15 includes a procedure for making and acting on objections to the counting of one or more of the electoral votes from a state or the District of Columbia. When the certificate or equivalent paper from each state (or the District of Columbia) is read, "the President of the Senate shall call for objections, if any." Any such objection must be presented in writing and must be signed by at least one Senator and one Representative. The objection "shall state clearly and concisely, and without argument, the ground thereof...." When an objection is received, each house is to meet and consider it separately. The statute states that "[n]o votes or papers from any other State shall be acted upon until the objections previously made to the votes or papers from any State shall have been finally disposed of." However, in 1873, before enactment of the law now in force, the joint session agreed, without objection and for reasons of convenience, to entertain objections with regard to two or more states before the two houses met separately to consider any of them.

And I was somewhat amused to read that gun sales are now through the roof. Every time some lib advocates for gun control, Americans run to the gun stores!

medved is no conservative. He was an avid supporter of RINOs in 2008 and I haven’t seen any change in him since then. I recall him and Hugh Hewitt another RINO lover, were on the Romeny bandwagon in 2008 and most likely also in 2012.

These are people who live and work in New York, Washington, San Francisco.

In many cases, they literally don't know anybody who owns a gun and often the only time they've ever seen one is when they bump into a cop on the subway. In short, they fear what is unfamiliar to them, and living as they do in crowded urban environments filled with unusually large numbers of aggressive people, they tend assume the worst about human intentionality.

If I had to base my opinion of humanity on the people I rode the train with in the city every day, I wouldn't trust people much, either. That's a big reason why I left city life behind 25 years ago, and never looked back. It's much nicer here in the country - along with my family, good neighbors... and my guns, too.

I stopped listening to Medved a long time ago when he treated callers opposing illegal immigration the same way he treated 2nd ammendment callers. Someone who is pro illegal immigration and anti 2nd ammendment is not conservative in my book.

I agree. another one is/was””I am a Christian and Democrat.” Both are kinda like a German in the 1930s saying,”I am a member of the National Socialists Workers Party, I also support Adolph Hitler, but I really and truly love the Jews.”

Re your post #10, yes, you are correct. None of us who are real conservatives have much in the way of friends nowadays. The American public, if it was truly informed, would support us, but they remain low-information people.

The future does look bleak.

Because none of these self-proclaimed Conservatives are actually Conservative. We only have a few real Conservatives in the media... Rush is the Big Kahuna.

I would saythat they are not genuine bona fide Conservatives in the first place.I would also add that “judas” should also be in their name somewhere.

They are letting emotions override logic. Humans, including “conservatives,” have a difficult time coping with the fact that horrible things can happen to anyone at any time and there is nothing you or anyone else can do to stop it. They grasp for solutions. In some cases, it’s banning guns and in other cases it’s owning one.

These cretins hear the phrase “assault rifle” and think that means you can stroll into a Dicks Sporting Goods and purchase a full auto AK-47 as seen in the Rambo movies.

Medved? Who is this guy? Where does he broadcast? Is he offshore and trying to stay afloat?

Medved is an old movie reviewer that tries to play a conservative radio show host. He used to fill in for Rush before Medved became syndicated.

They are letting emotions override logic.

I think that's correct. Although they are hardly immune from the tendency, I might still hope that as a matter of philosophical grounding, conservatives would be less likely to substitute emotion for reason.

I used to hold Medved somewhat in esteem due to his movie books, going way back to the early-80s, and would occasionally catch his radio show. But I vividly remember listening to his show one day back around 2007, during a long drive home, when he just went all-in with his pro-amnesty, pro-illegals argument.

I stopped listening to Medved then and there. Turned him off and never tuned in again.
