Movie Trailer for NASA Hits Crowdfunding Goal on Indiegogo

Crowdfunding for NASA – in a round about way. Unknown to most people, NASA is barred from purchasing advertising. Recently a campaign on Indiegogo was launched to purchase a trailer to run prior to the next Star Trek film which will soon be in theaters across the country. As quoted from the campaign;

"When the Space Shuttle landed for the last time, many Americans thought NASA was closed for good. Nothing could be further from the truth. Right now, men and women from the space program are designing and building next generation space vehicles to go to new destinations in space, farther than we’ve ever gone before. NASA recently made an inspiring new online video narrated by Mr. Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime (see above), to show the progress being made on these new systems, but the agency is barred by law from buying advertising time for such a spot. Today we’re running a crowdfunding campaign to edit this video into a 30 second spot, and place it in movie theater screens around the country, starting with the premiere of ‘Star Trek Into Darkness.’ By backing this 30 second trailer in the top movie theater markets around the United States, you can show our students and young people that we’re in an exciting new era of space exploration. Now is the time to reach them – to remind them that an inspiring space program awaits, one that is worthy of their ambition."

Well they hit their goal and then some. The crowdfunding campaigns original target was for $33,000 and as of a recent review – the amount raised had surpassed $43,000 (ed. note: amount is now $44,409 with 29 days to go). Now the campaign is on a stretch funding drive to reach $94,000. If the stretch goal is hit the trailer will be viewed in over 750 screens across the country. I am looking forward to seeing this on the big screen.

NASA, you didn’t fire the hack Hansen.

We know your standards.

There are not any.

The moon and Mars could just as well be in a parallel universe.

What a pantload. NASA's mission is to keep humanity earth-bound.

Get your facts straight before you go on the attack. NASA is being forced into its global warming stance and Muslim outreach lunacy by the Obama Admin, which you would know if you did a little research. He’s also dismantled our space program, let go tons of people from NASA, put his own people in to head it, and basically has made a hollow man out of NASA who have to live under his regime. And you all know this, or should.

NASA was one of our great shining jewels until Obama and his minions got their meathooks into the organization. I guess you had the same amount of vitriol against NASA when Bush was Prez, right?

What about what NASA was doing before the Impostor was put into office?

“What about what NASA was doing before the Impostor was put into office?”

You tell me. I’m not going to do your research for you. If you have never liked our space program or NASA in general, then your lack of curiosity about the secrets hidden in the skies is beyond your comprehension. And that’s the same stance that most Dems take, which is to do away with NASA, and concentrate on getting more people on the welfare roles. Glass half empty people. Are you one of them?

I’ve loved NASA since I was a child. We should have had a Moon base already, and had landed on Mars, maybe mined a few asteroids for their metals.

Look at how close the Moon is and all we’ve done is build a Shuttle (now discontinued) and have a space station that will probably be decommissioned in seven years.

Best to let the private sector take over manned space flight.

The problem with NASA is it’s part of the government, it can’t do ANYTHING it hasn’t been told to do. The reason we haven’t done anything since building the shuttle is because nobody told them, stick that blame first on Reagan who should have green lit the shuttle replacement (NASA said it would take them 20 years to get a replacement through development, and the expected life of the shuttle was 25). NASA hasn’t put a base on the moon because nobody has told them to. No manned missions to Mars because nobody has told them to.

You can’t hit them for not accomplishing missions they were never given, NASA’s got a ton of awesome plans they put before various politicians periodically, and nobody green lights them. After America got bored with moon landings NASA lost most of its funding and all of its mission. They went to Nixon with 3 plans for what to do next, the expensive one, the kind of expensive one and the cheap one. Nixon said do the cheap one, only cheaper, that gave us the shuttle. That was pretty much the last time any president actually gave NASA a mission, and that mission was to spend as little money as possible while still putting things in space. And that’s still basically their mission today.

Yeah, but it’s not their fault. 5 presidents in a row have failed to have any vision for NASA. And in the end that’s who they work for.

Because no president wants to be the guy that abandoned the future.
