In a 1977 interview with Richard Nixon, David Frost asked: "So, what in a sense you're saying is that there are certain situations . . . where the president can decide that it's in the best interests of the nation . . . and do something illegal?"
Nixon: "Well, when the president does it, that means that it is not illegal."
Frost: "By definition."
Nixon: "Exactly, exactly."
Nixon's claim, although constitutionally grotesque, was less so than the claim implicit in Obama's actions regarding the ACA. Nixon's claim was confined to matters of national security or (he said to Frost) "a threat to internal peace and order of significant magnitude." Obama's audacity is more spacious; it encompasses a right to disregard any portion of any law pertaining to any subject at any time when the political "environment" is difficult.

It is also more specious.

Thou shalt not question any word which proceedeth from The Obama, The Messiah, The Won, lest thou be called racist...
Here Endeth The Lesson.
Amen..
lest I be Guilty of Heresy I shalt refraineth from DISSING the One!
spacious specious! the Obama tagline of the week
No it was not “less gross” than the ACA decision — in fact both have the same root of pride and appeal to self-authority.
I notice Will doesn’t say what “certain situations” Nixon was asked about. IIRC it was the bombing of Cambodia, which is true.
Watergate, something Clinton would call just another days work, was rammed down the publics throat by the media literally every single day for 10 years and still is every few months. I saw an article about it only last month, once again how corrupt and evil Nixon was. It will go on forever, it will never end. But the 10 gabillion gates by Clinton? All but forgotten, brushed under the rug as if they never existed. Even Obama, when’s the last time you read something about Benghazi? Last week? By next year the press will be Benghazi what?
Obama’s so called ‘presidency’ has been poisonous to the US govt.
We need the antidote and fast.
law can only be created by congress, then signed by the president.
the president can only enforce the law... a duty he cannot avoid as he has no Constitutional right to choose which law he can ignore
and by behaving counter to a law, ie: breaking the law, he is violating his duty. this is a fact regardless of his job title.
the president is a citizen of the United States and is bound by the same laws. in many cases, more so
No one told Nixon or Clinton that.
hit in the face by a cream pie?
for some reason, i’m pretty sure it wouldn’t be barry’s first time
;-}
That’s absolutely it. We no longer live under a “liberal media”. It’s gotten much much worse than that. What we live under now is extreme censorship run by fascists posing as “journalists”. If it wasn’t for the internet and Foxnews, North Korea would have a freer press than us and that’s the Gods honest truth. And that day is coming. Do we even have to guess the internet is going to be censored next?
