Brides Throwing Cats? It's Now Officially a Thing [no cats actually thrown]

What do you do when you’re tired of sitting around in your pajamas and playing video games all day? Why, you sit around in your pajamas, fire up Photoshop, and create some giggles by defacing wedding photos! And thus began Brides Throwing Cats. Here are some of my favorite photos -- and, of course, a Very Super Serious and Scholarly timeline of the trend’s development.

Cat throwing began in farm country

The game had its start sometime in the mid 20th century, presumably somewhere in Kansas judging from this photo.

Soon, cat throwing became a competitive sport

This bride took home a medal in the Ohgoshaminny County Regional High School Outdoor Track Championship for her prowess at the over-the-shoulder cat shot put.

Bridesmaids stepped up their game, too

The woman on the right, in the minidress, is reliving her glory days as a forward on her high school basketball team. Either that or she’s doing a dance of joy because she doesn’t have to wear the same hideous Disney princess ball gown as the other unfortunate bridesmaids.

It evolved with trends and tastes

Crowd surfing isn’t just for punk rock shows. Wedding receptions are an ideal venue, especially if you happen to be a cat who was just launched from a bride’s hands.

Today, brides all over the world are pitching cats at their female guests. Let's check in and see how the craze has caught on.

These guests are going to fight for that cat!

Look out, y’all -- the bridesmaids are brawling! Well, except for the woman on the left in the red flowery dress, who seems to be running for her life.

These guests are begging for mercy

If you catch the bride’s bouquet, you’ll be the next to get married. These women must think that catching the bride's cat means that you’ll die alone with 200 cats of your own, who will probably eat you when they realize you're no longer going to feed them.

And these guests just don’t give a crap

Apparently, neither does the bride. This picture just screams (or perhaps mumbles) “yeah, whatever."

Even memes aren’t safe from the cat-throwing craze

Grumpy Cat went to a wedding once. It was horrible!

Just to reiterate: These brides are not throwing actual cats. Neither this post nor the Brides Throwing Cats blog should be construed as endorsements for such behavior. If you're stupid enough to try to throw a cat instead of a bouquet at your wedding, you and your guests will get what you deserve.

There’s a pun (or two) in there, but I don’t dare.

LOL. I had the same train of thought.

Silly, but strangely entertaining.

My Kearen could assume the look of both figures.
She was a transformer.
Or a hideous creature of legend.

Cat juggling. That's where it's at. Failed photoshops. Priceless.

RR,

Check out photo at # 21. Sure looks better than having 0’s ugly mug up there.

Neat graphic, S&A.

It’s as real as pro wrestling.

Darn straight! Think those moves are fake?!? You get in the ring and get smacked around like that!

;)

Ha! I thought that was some old timey picture until I noticed the Pixies poster on the wall. Ah, the 90’s granny dress...

Well the pic is pretty small but I’m like 90% sure it’s them.

The Pixies are from Boston, too. I should be ashamed for not knowing them, living in Boston’s burbs.
