Nice pics! Probably should be split into pages, but worth a look. Thanks Daffynition.

I wonder how some of those Asian tribes managed to hold onto their lifestyles throughout the Soviet era. Even the Mongolians, how is it they’re left alone by the Chicoms? I thought they were all rounded up and forced to integrate. But if they were able to stay a step ahead of the commies I’m thinking it might be time to invest in a yurt.

The Soviet regime used the same phony diversity crap in its propaganda, and of course divided the USSR along ethnic lines for administrative purposes. Also, some of those areas are so remote that there’s not much need for or economic justification for much of a gov’t presence.

Amazing. Amazing all the differences in how people adorn themselves. We are rather boring even on Venice beach and Hollywood boulevard.

Thank you! That video is awesome. My bucket list contains the hope to visit Mongolia and stay in a yurt/ger.

I love these nomads and their Tuvan music.

[I may have seen that video on NatGeo.....or somesuch.]

And I doubt they make a disclaimer in the credits....*no eagles were injured in the filming of this video*

“notice most lack shoes?”

I worked at a mine in Papua New Guinea for awhile. Many of the local tribesmen that got “civilized” (to an extent) worked at the mine. High altitude, sharp rocks on the paths, cold temperatures.

At the edge of the mine site proper along a walking path that headed off towards a mountain pass was a pile of boots. I asked about it, and they said the locals can’t stand wearing boots, but have to on the mine. But when they quit and go back home (walking 20-50 miles over the pass to get to their remote villages) they dump their boots. But the hard hats and other cloths they’ll keep and use. But they would rather go barefoot.

I remember one time working off-site along that path and a family came walking by. One of our local helpers ran to talk with them. It was snowing/sleeting. They had shorts and t-shirts (dad, mom, two young kids) and that was it. Each was carrying a mesh bag the size of a grocery bag. Our helper came back and I asked “what are THEY doing up here!?” They were visiting relatives in another village. And had come from 20 miles away, and had another 10 to go. Unbelievable!

To: I still care

One of my sisters and I were marveling recently about some technological advances, when she said, “Yet there are places in the world where people still have not figured out that they should not defecate in the same waters where they get their drinking water!”

Wow! I had no idea. Tough birds.

I wonder if the wolves ever inflict fatal injuries on the birds.
