Strangely, I got Yonkers for calling sneakers sneakers. Aren’t they called sneakers in a lot of places? Actually, I thought it was an old term, not a term particular to a certain part of the country.

From DC but did 10 years in Philly and worked a year in NYC. I didn’t think I’d picked up NY words, but Philly, yeah.
I did ask someone in the Midwest for some ‘warder’ once and they didn’t know what I wanted. Another person in the group was from the east coast and recognized ‘water’ immediately.

I took this before today (the kid posted it to facebook), but seeing here that there were different questions I took it again.
This time I got the title question - being from NYC, but not from Brooklyn, I say “you guys”.
It’s a very good little quiz, I like the “I have no word for this” answer.
I even asked hubby, but it seems we have no word for the little strip of grass between sidewalk and street. And he grew up in Long Island suburbia! He uses “apron” but only for the bit of the driveway that crosses the sidewalk. Amazing that we don’t have any name for them.
I get a similar result. I grew up in Texas but it tells me Alabama.
My parents are from Alabama. Maybe you had some relatives or a teacher from from that area when you were young. The test is not about accent so much as word usage

Same here it was pretty spot on with Rockford/Aurora IL but also threw in Toledo, OH strangely enough:)
Heh. Spokane, Boise, Modesto(!?) Red hot Northern Rockies (which is correct), with red swirls and warm colors running into Desert SW across Lower Midwest, and throughout the South. Stone cold blue everywhere the liberals live... go figger :)
Mine nailed it...central South Carolina. Central Mississippi was also dark red.
Unfortunately, I just had to give up my XP; 7 Y.O. machine died, so had to “upgrade” from what is really the best Windows version there is. In four more months there will be no more security updates or other support for it from Macroshaft, so it didn’t make sense to try to keep XP going. April 8th is the cutoff date.

It was. My three cities were Springfield, Worcester. and PROVIDENCE. I lived in Providence for 50 years. Now I live in Texas and people make fun of the way I talk. Two things are carriage or shopping cart. I say carriage. The other is pocketbook or purse. I say pocketbook.
It had me mostly red/orange over the whole eastern half of the US. From Mass down to Florida and across to up and down the Mississippi river. There are deep red areas all over Alabama, Georgia etc. but the curious thing is it identified three cities as closest: Newark/Patterson, Yonkers and NYC....
To me this just means that their test group of questions is very limited in scope and do not account for a respondent having traveled or lived elsewhere extensively.

It zeroed in on me, with an area on concentration being NW NC and SW VA(I live near the NC border in SWVA). I've lived in NW SC for awhile when I was growing up.
They must not have espinades north of the Mason-Dixon.

Milwaukee, Wi Rochester NY is my chosen city. I was born and raised in mid state NY on the border of Massachusetts. Go figure. Oh, and when you live in the country, one has no idea what those strips of grassy areas along streets are called.
