A California church sought to make people think about the repercussions of violence, by replacing the baby Jesus with a bloody sculpture of Trayvon Martin in a nativity scene.

What they got instead were threats.

The crèche outside the church Claremont United Methodist Church in Claremont, Calif., includes a mannequin wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with blood spilling from its chest and pooling on the ground.

“Jesus was born at a highly violent and political time and today, we still live in highly violent society,” said the Rev. Dan Lewis, a pastor at the church. “The nativity scene isn’t meant to incite anger, it is mean as an artistic expression… It is meant to be thought provoking.”

For eight years, the church has used art at Christmastime to make statements about hot-button social issues, including works about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, homelessness, imprisoned single mothers and the rights of immigrants.

what a misguided (disgusting, really!) thing to do to a Christmas display!

May I respectfully suggest that those responsible please pray about what they’ve done...?

The takeaway being that you might get shot if you go around beating on innocent people. Wait, what?

How about a bloody victim of the knockout game?

Because they’d have to find a mannequin looking like a nine year old girl.

One of them is dead and the other is totally alive. The grave could not hold Him.

They could have portrayed Joseph as Zimmerman, head bloodied and split open from having the sainted baby Trayvon (I refuse to in any way equate that thug who died in his sin, with the Lord and Saviour of the universe), if they wanted to complete the analogy.

These people are really begging for justice, real justice, the kind they will receive at the Great White Throne Judgement. When every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall confess, that Jesus Christ is Lord. It will be too bad that they waited until they were forced to do so, in the company of the demons and all other creations which refused to do so in their lifetimes when they had the freewill choice.

Hey Zimmerman, what do you think of your fellow Democrats and Obama supporters now?

Does the Christmas display show Trayvon slamming a guys head repeatedly against the concrete?

This is hell’s game, to expurgate details that matter. It didn’t use to be that bold because integrity counted for something. Now we have the folly of the Garden played out in plain sight (make virtually anything out to be good or evil that you want, because of expurgating things that matter) and all we can do is say la-di-dah? Come ON folks, God expects better out of us.

I’d just like to comment that if we weren’t so spiritually blind (and now thanks to the Lord I am only “sand blind” at this point of my life, versus seeing absolutely nothing as before) we wouldn’t need the GWT to warn us of accountability!

We’ve forgotten the love-your-God and love-your-neighbor commandments big time. And those of us who think the interaction between George and Trayvon was way too marked with sad distance (at the least) might consider our own lives; are we distanced from one another? Are we here to brag of how right we are and get attaboys, or are we here to spur on one another to love and good deeds?

They surely could have gotten a grant from the NEA to fund it.

And I mean that about the distancing. One person validly pointed out that had Trayvon tried to defuse by asking Zimmerman why the eye, the altercation probably wouldn’t have happened, and quite fair enough that’s true. Have we asked the same of Zimmerman? I don’t think he called out to Trayvon either. Both could have penetrated the thicket of demons, and maybe even Zimmerman was in a better position to do it. Once the physical fight started, yes it’s crystal clear that Trayvon was doing the worse thing and that Zimmerman did not err to shoot. But I boldly aver that both erred prior to the physical fight in failing to take steps to fight a worse foe: Satan.

Agree. This has got to upset the Son and the Father. I wonder what John MacArthur thinks of this?

Next to the Episcopal Church (to which I converted and subsequently left), the Methodist Church (in which I was raised) is the most odious in Big Religion.

They should show the crucified bloody Jesus rather than a guy who picked the wrong guy to mug.

I left the United Methodist Church finally after 10 years of struggling. Stay and fight or just move. The church is split hopelessly. There is a silent majority of God loving souls that tolerate the insanity produced by the divinity schools. The truth is most of preachers/pastors come from one conservative school, Asbury. The rest of the affiliated schools produce these liberal social justice driven ministers. Your better off if the guy who preaches refers to himself as pastor... I suspect you have an Emory grad in Claremont... good luck.
