Jelly Belly Debuts BEER-Flavored Jelly Bean (NOT satire)

For more than 100 years, Jelly Belly has been a leading name in the jelly bean industry, with flavors like Buttered Popcorn, Toasted Marshmallow and Bubble Gum. And now? Beer.

Jelly Belly debuted Draft Beer as its newest flavor on Saturday. While the news comes only one month after the December release of its Tabasco Dark Chocolate flavor, the latest addition to the Jelly Belly family is one that has been three years in the making.

“Our fans have been asking for a beer Jelly Bean for years,” Rob Swaigen, Jelly Belly’s vice president of marketing, told TODAY.com. “It took a few years to perfect, but we think we got it right.”

To pay homage to Jelly Belly’s German ancestry, the company matched the taste of the candy to a Hefeweizen ale — but don’t add Draft Beer jelly beans to the cocktail bar just yet.

Now, why HAVEN’T they come out with Bacon???

My personal downfall: Blueberry. They got the flavor JUST right. I once (as a 25-year-old) ate an entire 1/2 pound bag I’d purchased in a candy store within 2 hours. I will not go into the effect it had on me....suffice it to say that food dyes can and do color...other things.

“I want them to come out with a cabernet to go along with my Round Table pizza!”

Well, we will pass this along to a friend, a wine maker in wino country, and a relative to the creators of Jelly Belly great flavors.

He is making some great blends with red wines.

The Jelly Belly factory was a favorite touring place for our grandkids in pre school and elementary. We were glad to volunteer to help with their classmates in happy tours.

I took the no alcohol pledge the day BO was sworn into office. I wasn't even close to being an alcoholic, but was genuinely afraid I was on the road to becoming one unless I took the pledge.

Probably a wise move -- there's a working theory I have that the incidence of alcoholism increases as tyranny increases, a sort of self-medication / self-determination that is generally denied under tyranny.

Bad news for the “I want Pizza-flavored Jelly Belly” crowd: We took the factory tour a few years ago and learned that they tried to make a pizza flavored bean. It didn’t work. It tasted terrible and was rechristened “vomit” flavor.

First you eat the beer jelly bean, then you eat the puke jelly bean! I love the pear, buttered popcorn, and cinnamon jelly bellys. Tutti frutti is good, too.
