Dems push to ban e-cigs on Capitol grounds

Seven Democratic lawmakers are pushing to ban the use of electronic cigarettes on the grounds of the Capitol complex as part of a wider campaign against them.

Led by the Senate's second-ranking Democrat, Dick Durbin (Ill.), the group called on rulemaking committees in both chambers to include e-cigarettes in the Capitol's existing ban on smoking in public places and near building entrances.

"Given preliminary [federal] research finding harmful chemicals present in e-cigarettes, measures should be taken to ensure that the public is equally protected from the potential dangers posed by e-cigarettes and their vapor," the lawmakers wrote Tuesday.

Via a spokesman, Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) told The Hill on Wednesday that he would pursue the rules change.

The letter marks the latest in a series of actions by congressional Democrats to curb e-cigarettes.

Four of the seven senators included in Tuesday's letter accused the Golden Globe awards last month of "glamorizing" e-cigarettes after the show featured two celebrities smoking them, including "Veep" star Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

The same group has also urged the Obama administration to speed up its efforts to crack down on the devices.

Mostly unregulated at the federal level, the e-cigarettes vaporize a nicotine solution in order to simulate regular smoking.

Supporters say that "vaping" is a healthier alternative to smoking because it leaves out the noxious chemicals found in many conventional cigarettes. Some also say e-cigarettes have helped them quit regular smoking.

But critics argue that the battery-powered devices deliver a more powerful dose of nicotine per puff, posing a serious health risk.

Tuesday's letter was signed by Sens. Durbin, Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Edward Markey (D-Mass.), Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.).

There is a serious ongoing campaign to force the Federal Executive Department to conform to the limitations that the Constitution imposes on ALL branches of government. The Constitution is the sole protection that WE THE PEOPLE have against arbitrary, capricious and abusive acts of government. ALL of it.

THIS INCLUDES PROTECTION AGAINST THE IGNORANT MORONS IN CONGRESS.

Can these intellectual giants be unaware of the legal requirements necessary to justify and defend scientific challenges to arbitrary and capricious laws that can be based (or challenged) on the basis of Science?

The low or "no" information citizen (as well as any members of Congress with b***s) might profit from simply the casual knowledge of Rule 702 of the Federal Rules of Evidence that apply when something tht involves science is involved. But someone has to challenge the arbitrary proposed law!

I suspect these numbskulls are thinking, "Look at those idiots, getting around our Perfectly Reasonable restrictions on smoking by using these e-cigs. Bastards! We gotta stop them!"

Doesn't exactly pass for adult-level cogitation, but that's what I suspect they're thinking.

These resident low IQ Congresscritters seem totally unaware that options with ecigarettes is low or NO nicotine whatsoever!

E-cig vapor looks like analog cigarette smoke. Too difficult for enforcers to tell the difference. Liberals don't like the analogous suggestion to ban drinking water in public because it looks like vodka or gin.

But it is fun to poke the liberals anyway.

Nothing related to the smoking insanity is about health,it’s all about money-—either taxes or profits.

And control...........

And last year I vaped my e-cig in the hallway leading to Nancy Pelosi’s office, while her staffer fetched my 7 year old a bottled water.

Bastards!

There is one a couple of blocks from my house and a Walgreens directly across from my house, so smokers won’t go to CVS, will go to Walgreens.

Yep, and that will include their prescription drugs too.......bad movc on CVS's part.

I switched to 'em just shy of two years ago....painless transition.

The bonus is it's easy - and often fun - to act like a kid and "sneak" a lungful where it should be verboten. My personal best is the pre-op area right before getting my gallbladder yanked.

I tried Zyban, and after about a week I started feeling really slow and stupid. After I had dropped the third glass of water, having forgotten that I was holding it, I quit eating them. My brother did use it successfully to quit.

Been vaping for about a month now and find the non-tobacco flavors so entrancing that I am buying the lowest nicotine juice and the zero nicotine juice and mixing them so that I don't OD.

Started with the blu system and found it barely adequate. Ended up with Halo's Triton tank system which I think is fabulous. They also make a flavor called Kringle's Curse which is pure peppermint candy cane. Johnson's Creek makes some very nice vanilla and orange flavors.

That sounds like mine and that is because they were working. I called them my “Don’t give a shi- pills. There were occasional twinges of desire for smoke in the first few days, but they didn’t last long enough to make we light up. Good Luck,
