CONCORD, Calif. — A student effort to come up with a special menu for Black History Month backfired at a Northern California high school. Interim President Sister Ann Bernard of Carondelet High School in Concord, Calif., said students who were members of the Black Student Union club at neighboring De La Salle High School planned a special lunch to celebrate the month. The menu included fried chicken, corn bread and watermelon. "They thought this was a very clever way, in their own way, of celebrating Black History Month. It was as simple, and naive as that," Sister Bernard explained. On Thursday Bernard publicly apologized for the event she said was planned without following procedures to get staff approval.

The menu included fried chicken, corn bread and watermelon.

From this day forth, it should be a hate crime to offer this combination of food.

I'm done with all the racism bull****.

Far as I'm concerned, take your lunch tray to the back of the bus.

I might add: there is no such thing as a “spokesman for the black community” or “black leadership.” There is no such thing as an “authentic black” or an “inauthentic black.” These are political constructs meant either to divide people into groups or to exclude individuals who fail to confiorm to stereotypes.

Obviously, serving ethnic/cultural cuisine on an ethnic holiday is a hate crime and needs to be outlawed:

No eating or serving soul food during Black History Month if you are not black.

No eating or serving corned beef and cabbage and Irish soda bread on St. Patrick’s Day if you are not Irish.

No eating or serving tacos, enchiladas or guacamole on Cinco De Mayo if you are not Mexican.

No Italian food on Columbus Day if you are not Italian. (Actually, Columbus Day needs to be outlawed, period.)

No stir fries or egg rolls on Chinese New Year if you are not Chinese.

How about this? How about we stop having special “months” for people based on their skin color or what they do in the bedroom? How about that, huh?!

The article says "students who were members of the Black Student Union club at neighboring De La Salle High School planned a special lunch to celebrate the month."

So, what's the point of the story? Is it that blacks are racist...against blacks?

Simple way to fix this. DON’T KOW TOW TO THE BLACKS! No matter what you do you will offend them so don’t even try to appease them.

Continue to serve the Mystery Meat meals as usual. When THEY whine, say that you DON’T want to offend them! They will still be offended by it.

"students who were members of the Black Student Union club

So what does the White Student Union club have to say on the matter? Oh, that's right. It would be racist to have one of those.

Where`s the chitterlings? (Not too bad tasting when served in a little Louisiana hot sauce but, good God do they stink when frying!)

This exposes the fact that there really is no such ethnicity as "African-American" or "black." The menu describes southern cooking which I enjoyed as a child. Soul food is the same cuisine that all Southerners share.

Fried chicken was an African dish and was introduced by slaves to their plantation owners. It became a Southern institution for whites as well as blacks, and now for the entire nation.
