Scientists develop GM potato that’s immune to Irish famine fungus, late blight
Belfast Telegraph ^ | 17 February 2014

A potato genetically modified to resist the fungus which caused the devastating Irish potato famine of 1845 has been developed by British scientists.

Late blight, caused by the organism Phytophthora infestans, remains the potato farmer’s greatest enemy to this day.

Each year UK farmers spend around £60 million keeping the infection at bay with pesticides. In a bad year, losses and control measures combined can account for half the total cost of growing potatoes. …

Wow!

This is an important find.

It has never affected my potatoes, but two years ago it wiped out my tomatoes... it is so fast, it was practically overnight.

Is that the new Chevy Spud? I’ve heard it is powered by blight.

The Welsh had already developed a perfect hybrid potato... Non-GMO. There was some sort of demonstration because the gummit spent millions and still had not come up with the GMO version. They pelted officials with the spuds. laughing...

All “studies” on GMOs are funded by the corporations that produce them. There is excellent research easily found showing the truth. Or just eat the stuff. It is all “yours”. The elites won’t touch it worldwide for a reason.Monsanto has organic food in their lunchrooms for their employees. Personally, I will not use any product from the people who produced Agent Orange. I have family and friends still suffering from being exposed.

Three years ago I bought a bottle of neem oil from Amazon for $15. I spray that stuff (diluted) over everything except salad greens. Regardless of garden culture, blight attacks my tomatoes every year. As soon as I spray with neem oil the blight is stopped and the plants are saved.

Genetic modification through hybridization is no more natural than targeted genetic modification using enzymes. **All** agricultural products are genetically modified. Only the methods have changed.

Amazing isn’t it? These anti GMO people have no basis in reality. An interesting thing to do is to read a thread on Democratic Underground about GMO. Many here on FR post much of the same BS word for word, right down to the Mansato attacks.

Too fooking late. Do not expect waves of reverse immigration from Australia, the United States and Canada.
