Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducts....Cat Stevens???
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ^ | 2/19/14 | Rock & Roll HOF

Posted on 02/19/2014 2:47:38 PM PST by hoagy62

Today, the 2014 inductees to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame were announced. Among those being inducted were KISS, Hall & Oates, Nirvana, Peter Gabriel, and Linda Ronstadt.

However, one inductee just ruined the whole thing for me: Cat Stevens, or...as he prefers to be known now...Yusef Islam.

How could the RRHOF make such a grievous error? Do they not know that the evil cult that he supports who have them all executed for the very thing that they personify?

It amazes me that people are still getting mad that their deserving acts aren’t getting in. I mean at some point don’t you have to stop wanting them to stand shoulder to shoulder with complete stiffs, and be considered their peers? Not to mention the deserving acts themselves.

There is reason that Cooperstown is the only hall of fame that really matters, despite all its many flaws. It wouldn’t be if someone with the playing skills of Ted Williams was inducted long after someone with the playing skills of Bob Ueker. Like the R&R hall of fame.

“Cats in the Cradle” was Harry Chapin, the guy who also sang “Taxi”.

Cat Stevens did “Wild World”, Oh Very Young, BitterBlue, Peace Train, Another Saturday Night(cover), lots of good tunes back in the early 70’s.

Yeah, so many other worthy bands should be there first. Then again, we’re talking about Rolling Stone magazine here... not worthy to wipe yer butt with...

I could do without Cat Stevens, “Grunge” and Jethro Tull.

And no Ted Nugent?

Blasphemy!

As for the Beastie Boys, they had some clever, obscure references to pop culture in their “Pauls Boutique” Album and Run DMC rarely, if ever, used any foul language and was more of a fusion of rock and rap with a positive message, unlike 99% of rap “musicians” nowadays.

“King of Rock” is a great album.

My biggest problem is the question, “On what planet is ‘Morning Has Broken’ rock and roll?”

Cat Stevens’ flash in the pan career, which was 40 years ago, wasn’t rock and roll anyway, IOW this is clearly just dhimmi behavior by the idiots who voted him in. Thanks hoagy62.

They aren’t. They are marketing. And profiting. Who needs an accurate representation of musical history when a couple bucks can be made?

Not the HOF that’s for sure.

As far as Rap goes Run DMC is OK. They were indeed at least clean/positive. But rock they aint. Lots of other genre artists throw in some other stuff for crossover and I get it, but how one gets in to a ‘legit’ hall of fame by merely adding outside influences via a distorted guitar riff is beyond me. Of course there IS no legit HOF with them or anyone else in it.

Bear in mind that Cat Stevens got out of the music business when he became Yusuf Islam. These days, even he might not approve of his elevation to the Hall of Fame. Islamic fundamentalists tend to frown on music of any kind. That’s why every Iranian song I have ever heard was either recorded when the Shah was in charge, or comes from an artist who was run out of the country.

Hahaha. Cat Islam is so forgettable I can’t even remember any song of his. I stand corrected.

Kiss is indeed parody...done right. Wearing lumberjack shirts and mumbling isn’t doing it right. It’s looking like a dweeb even though there was money in it.

Well, Kiss action figures outnumber Kurt Cobain action figures on eBay right now by a ratio of about 100:1.

So, I guess you're right. Kiss in, Nirvana out.

Yea...roch has no relation to blues either I suppose?

Rap has no relation to music, but yet there are rap acts in the RRHOF.

That's proof that the "hall of fame" concept is meaningless.
