Kerry Courts Manila Government: Philippines To Become The 51st U.S. State?
The Adobo Chronicles Blog ^ | December 17, 2013

Manila, Philippines - It’s all about oil. U.S. interest seems to be shifting from the Middle East to Asia, particularly the oil-rich waters surrounding the Philippines, China, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei. Tension has been rising among and between the governments of these countries over territorial claims in around South China Sea and the Spratly Islands.

Overtly, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is in the Philippines to try to ease tensions between the Manila and Beijing governments, urging China to go easy on imposing no-fly and no-sail zones over the disputed territories between the two countries.

Covertly, as confirmed by latest tweets from suspected American security secrets leaker Edward Snowden, Kerry is in Manila talking up the Aquino government to seriously consider becoming the 51st state of the U.S. Kerry said that becoming a U.S. state would be in the best interest of the Philippines because it would essentially put the American military at its disposal in its dispute with China. Of course, what Kerry is not saying is that it would grant the U.S. full access to the area’s rich oil resources.

The Filipino sentiment against American colonialism has significantly changed since the U.S. military bases were practically driven out of the Philippines in the early 1990′s. There is a growing displeasure with the Manila government. Filipinos are fed up with political dynasties, incompetence, corruption and all that kind of stuff.

Is it time to add another star to the stars and stripes?

This is how WWII started with Japan. We embargoed oil shipments to Japan and tried to cut off their other oil supplies.

Now we are attempting the same thing only to China instead.

Oh and what is the one thing that could really help Islam around the world ? That would be a US China war. It would be between the two most important countries in world leaving a huge power vacuum. It would be the end of Capitalism, Buddism and Christianity leaving what ? Sharia Law and Islam.

well

it would also end any “chamber of commerce” or agriculture demand for support of cheap illegal immigrants

as any resident of the Phillipines would not be an “immigrant” at all, and as already good English speakers, they’d readily supply willing workers in all kinds of industries

and as far as the “oil patch”

well just like other U.S. States, they’d have a lot to say about offshore or onshoire oil drilling in their state and they get a chunk of the royalty revenue from any producing wells - just look at Alaska

does that mean business ONLY for U.S. Oil companies?

No. Oil companies from all over the world are invloved in the U.S. domestic oil & gas business

” the southern islands and southern parts of the large islands are controlled by Muslim paramilitary armies.”

Only eastern Mindanao has an autonomous region for the Muzies.
Western Mindanao is quite nice, with Davao being a large and modern city. While I live on Cebu in Visayas, I have never knowingly seen a Muslim during my five years here. Oh, and I have seen only about 5 blacks, and they were all in a big city, or airport.
Remember, the Philippines consist of 7,107 islands, over 300,000 sq km.

Hell American Samoans ain't even citizens yet, We need to take care of our own before we go off annexing other people.

Agreed; heck, I'd be more supportive of getting Japan in as a State than the Philippines — reason being that the unconditional surrender terms deprive them of real national self-defense* and statehood would negate a lot of that (as well as ensure via Art 4, Sec 4 that we'd protect them)… of course, given the fedgov's lack of defending the continental States from invasion, that might be just more of an empty a promise than any treaty we have with them.

* I believe that if you disarm someone that you are responsible for that person's safety.

People in the philippines wanted to become the 51st state about 45 years ago! I remember an article back then about a movement there to do this.

Does Obama intend on doing this with an executive order? If they could locate a copy of the constitution they would find there is a process to go through.

Hm, that's true… but we would get all the nice tech w/o those weird international treaties getting in the way.
And wouldn't Japan need to import gun instructors? Hm, and maybe export some of these?

:)

Yes, Japan would need to change it's Gun Culture.

And enrich ours by sending it's Women to...study on the mainland.

“The Filipino sentiment against American colonialism “

There was never any American Colonialism vis-a-vis Philippines. Spain Colonized the Philippines.

1898 End of Spanish American war, Treaty of Paris charges the U.S to administer the Philippines.

1899 Philippines declared war on the U.S

1901 Pretty well much over as U.S keeps administering the Island, and introduces Bicameral form of Civilian government

1916 U.S promises and all indicators are it has no intention of keeping the Philippines, creates a road map that includes ever increasing the jurisdictional duties of the Philippino government.

1934 — The Philippine Independence act and the Birth of Commonwealth of the Philippines.

1946 — Delayed several years because of occupied Philippines during WWII. Philippines is an independant Nation — but still heavily influenced by U.S interests.

late 70’s early 80’s they [the Philippines] loved the U.S. There might have been some ‘dead enders’ but for the most part, it was bliss for American Servicemen picking up good wives and the wives getting citizen ship and anchoring for the rest of the family — which I didn’t mind, they are good people.

Marcos was not bad as far as quasi dictators go, but the agiprops worked against him. Though it was their right and pretty cleanly done, it probably wasn’t prudent of them to overthrow Marcos. They could have convinced the U.S government to talk him out as he was getting a bit long in the tooth.

In Vietnam, “nothing felt safer or reassuring than seeing a smiling Filipino.” [third hand]

I would love for the Philippines to join up, though in the long run I don’t think it’s a good idea. Bad strategy as we should be focusing on South America.

There is a reason why Canada has 2 million Phillipino’s. They aren’t staying in their country because it’s paradise on earth.
