Dalai Lama says ‘okay’ to gay marriage
Belfast Telegraph ^ | 07 March 2014 | Antonia Malloy

The Dalai Lama has voiced his support for gay marriage and condemned homophobia, saying that sex is fine as long as it is consensual.

Speaking during an interview with American talk show host Larry King, the Buddhist monk said that gay marriage was “okay” and a “personal matter”.

He said: "If two people, a couple, really feel that way, it’s more practical, more satisfaction, and both sides fully agree, then okay!” …

China has the most Buddhists. 1,349,585,838
India has the second most. 1,220,800,359

Disapproval of homosexuals in both societies is very high. This is likely more cultural than religious though. Thailand is somewhat of a special case since it is essentially a prostitution hub, the Netherlands of the Far East.

Man, you are so totally off on your numbers.

From the India census 2011 site:

Total number of religious adherents = 1,028,610,328
100.0 %

Hindu. 827,578,868. 80.5%

Muslims 138,188,240. 13.4%

Christian 24,080,016. 2.3%

Sikh 19,215,730. 1.9%

Buddhist 7,955,207

Won’t even bother looking up China numbers

Sorry, those were total population numbers. My bad.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddhism_by_country

Has the total population estimates.

Of practicing Buddhists, China has 269,917,168. Thailand only has 62,726,752. In terms of just cultural Buddhists, Vietnam and Japan end up having more than Thailand.

And pretty soon, he’ll backtrack on his pro-life position.

Thanks Olog-hai.

Supposedly the Dalai Lama has also said in the (not- distant) past that oral and anal sex are not permissible under Buddhism.

Not going to be much fun for homosexuals.

Plus, is he still pro-life?

That has always surprised me when Hollywood stars turn to this "guru".

Looks like the Dalai Lama needs to quit calling himself a monk. He’s a disgrace to faithful buddists.

In the Vinaya (regulations for Buddhist monks), the Buddha states that those who openly expressed cross-gender features or strong homosexual desires and actions may not become a monk. Note that just having homosexual desires eliminates the person from the possibility of being a Buddhist monk.

Richard Gere is a good card-carrying Buddist. His mama must be proud.

They just released a new album “Apothacary/The Product” that sounds to be very good. Something out of the mainstream for sure ;)

Twenty five years ago I heard the Dalai Llama say homosexuality was contrary to Buddhism. Interesting how even he gets pressured to say something different now.

I guess the Muslim countries are the most disapproving of homosexual behavior. I think it is not tolerated in any of them.

Officially.

In reality, pederasty is widely practiced and always has been among Moslems. That is one of the reasons Moslem “culture” is barbaric and detestful.

A few years ago he condemned homosexual behavior as unnatural.

Now he’s on board with it.

He’s not even living up to Buddhist tradition and teachings.
