But who gets to blow out the candles?

What’s believed to be a lightly-camouflaged 50th Anniversary Ford Mustang has been spotted out on a test drive just a few weeks before its expected debut at the 2014 New York International Auto Show.

The GT-spec ‘Stang features several retro styling cues to mark the occasion, including a unique grille with a horizontal chrome bar and corral around the Mustang logo, what appear to be rear quarter window louvers hidden under a black panel, and forked-spoke wheels reminiscent of the ones seen on

The “X” style frame, 2 piece driveline made the 58 to 64’s a bit of a sled. I had a 62 Impala SS with a 427. It was a fast car but couldn’t catch the Camaro’s or Nova’s.

I remember that well, I think Ford tagged it as a 64 1/2 Mustang, the 65 came out a short time later in 65 if I remember right.

I nearly bought a 65 but they wouldn’t knock a dime off the sticker price so I walked, wish I had it now.

Ah yes, the fastback. My ex brother-in-law bought a new one in that same green. I believe he’s still got it, had it stored for many years.

My Brother had a 69 Mach 1. The styling had changed just a little but it was a nice looking car. It had a 351 with a four barrel. I don’t remember the HP but it was not as hot as I thought it should have been but not slow either.

It did sound real good.

Always like the looks of those early sixties GM "bubble top" coupes, would hate to roll one because those roof pillars look a little delicate but they're pretty cars. Always thought the '62 Bonneville was the prettiest of the lot. Image and video hosting by TinyPic

>>When I comes to preference I am a sucker for classic autos that have been given the full restorative modification treatment.<<

Quite beautiful.

But I am old school. I really like dead-on Dealer Showroom (on the outside) restorations.

But dropping a ‘Vette engine into that frame was inspired!

I had one of these. $3,300 brand new from Jerry Alderman Ford.

I'd still have it if it hadn't been stolen while I was at a Cubs/Cardinals game June 22, 1984.

There are far more basket cases with a sound body to renovate with modern drivetrain and amenities than there are complete examples worth restoring to original condition. I can appreciate both. There are manufacturers that are building new steel bodies for some of the very popular classic models, for instance the ‘57 Chevy. You can build a brand new one now, if you want. Not cheap, but you can.

I have a cousin who owns 4 64-65 mustangs. They have been sitting in his back yard (way out in the country) for at least 10 years.

He refuses to sell any of them and has done no restoration. He is around 70 and I have no idea why he keeps them.

My dad’s boss had one almost exactly like that when I was a kid, we had a ‘74 Javelin AMX. They were competitive, lol. Honestly thought the AMX was the better looking of the two but they were both nice.

I wish. Just a 351 Cleveland with a 4-barrel. It had pretty good pick up, but it had more power than the steering/aero could handle. I got it up to about 120 on I-465 in the wee hours of the morning, and the tach showed it had more to give. But it was starting to drift between lanes and that was enough for me.

*shrug* They handle like bathtubs.

Once drove a 1990's Mustank that required 200 lbs. of foot pressure on the clutch, maybe they fixed that..........
