FBI investigating Rush County home for artifact collection

RUSH COUNTY, Ind. - The FBI says a 91-year-old Indiana man who collected thousands of archeological artifacts over his lifetime may have acquired some of them improperly.

At a news conference Wednesday, the FBI could not say if Donald Miller would face charges for his collection in Waldron. Dozens of agents were at Miller's farm to collect and process the artifacts.

It happened in Waldron, a classic, quiet, one-stoplight Indiana town

Several people in Waldron said the house was like a museum, that school groups and Scout troops would go on regular tours.

The FBI has around 100 agents at the farm and they say it could take them up to a week to figure out what all the artifacts are. They've brought in a team of outside experts of archeologists and anthropologists to help.

"Over the last several months a FBI investigation has determined Mr. Miller may have knowingly or unknowingly collected artifacts relics and objects which may have been a violation of several treaties, federal, and state statues," said FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert Jones.

” according to the article, he didn’t have any children. “

Most ALL Governments have a habit of pilfering old childless people of their possession .... even BEFORE they die...

NASA has been doing surface temps (CAGW dogma from Hansen) through it’s GISS subset for decades.

Shouldn’t they be investigating the theft and illegal possession of the skull of the Native American Geronimo that currently resides in the basement of Yale University?

Also, instead of wasting the time of the FBI shouldn’t the Parks Service be the ones investigating this instead...?

"I’m very disappointed. I thought the FBI was on a great roll nabbing all the corrupt Democrats across the country. Maybe the jails got too full."

No, no, the FBI is still doing that. In fact I have it from reliable sources that every one of those skulls voted "straight party Democrat" in the 2008 election.

Oh, my God. They are going to burn this place down. Quick, rush is children and adults, and douse it with gas. This place looks just like a particular building in Waco, Texas.

That was my first question. Someone was jealous, I bet.

Funny thing, back in the 40’s and 50’s, there were a few weird artifact-type “makers.” They had mail-order catalogs full of stuff like shrunken heads and weird “stuffed animals” no one had ever heard of. They sold them to carnivals and and curio shops and tourist traps and anyone else that wanted them.

Possibly the last place where you can see stuff of the sort is a place on I-10 in Arizona that houses “The THING.” Mummified Native American remains? Space Alien left on earth? Some poor creature time forgot? Or...What??? (Google it or go to Wikipedia! Fun read!)

Anyway, judging by the descriptions in the story, I’ll bet there’s a real mish-mash of curio junk, fair antiques, and genuine artifacts. Sad thing is, as another FReeper alluded, it’s probably the last he’ll ever see those belongings.

Feynmann was at Alamagordo around age 24, and was the young genius of the bunch, and he’s been dead for years already; the last one of that generation to go was probably Ed Teller, who was ten years older than Feynmann, but died in 2003. Teller is sometimes called controversial, but that’s only because he was anti-communist. He’s easily the most interesting of all of them, even though Feynmann is the most fun.

” I am betting the Fed Gov is looking to increase the amount of artifact the Smithsonian has..”

That was my first thought but substitute cash to the highest bidder...may be the Smithsonian or another museum or a Dem private collector. Bet he has been approached by museums and turned them down...guess they got tired of waiting

LOL! That'd do it!

"Would you be willing to sell...?"

"Oh, no! I wouldn't dream of it! These have been with me since I was a kid!"

"Oh...really???"

unless they are saying he smuggled these items out of the origin country... then he obtained them fair and square at the time. laws changing decades later have no impact on such goods. to say so is to undermine property ownership and property transfer rights

Many states and the Feds, have laws about collecting artifacts and fossils from public lands, and several states have laws against taking anything from Indian burial sites, whether or not on private land.
