John Stewart takes on Sean Hannity..and wins!?
The Week ^ | 4-24-14

Posted on 04/24/2014 9:21:43 AM PDT by Paul46360

"This brewing spat started on Monday night, when Stewart mocked Hannity for supporting Nevada cattle rancher Cliven Bundy in his battle against the federal BLM. Hannity hit back on Tuesday night. On Wednesday's show, Stewart walked through Hannity's criticisms and showed why the Fox News star is tossing his verbal stones from a glass house."

Hannity is far from the sharpest knife in the drawer...
_________________________________________________________

Now that is an understatement. You were probably trying to be kind. :)

I do NOT know how anyone listens to Hannity. He repeats himself over and over and over. The few times I tried to listen to Hannity, his ignorance of the facts was astounding. I think he latches on to one, superficial aspect of a topic and beats it to death.

As for Jon Stewart...I only ever see clips folks post as I don’t normally stay up late. I find him funny on occasion...other times I wonder what I’m missing.

I’m thinking I’m an old geezer.

Why would Hannity be in an argument with a john stewart? Sean should have just ignored the comments.

Dude!

(don’t know if you actually are a dude...but seemed appropriate).

I’ll get my butt kicked...but that was funny. Dry humor, but it struck a note.

Stewart backs an admin that refuses to enforce immigration laws. Unless he’s been attacking the Obama admin for extreme malfeasance, Stewart is nobody to arguing about the rule of law with anybody.

I suppose I'm getting tired of conservatism losing these battles over and over again. There seem to be conservatives that take pride in being intellectually lazy.

We're getting our butts kicked in the battle for young minds. Our only recent success has been the disaster of Obamacare -- and that was handed to us by Democrats!

The lack of a proper intellectual foundation will be the doom of conservatism.

That was the whole gist of Stewart's mocking Hannity's hypocrisy. Hannity is lambasting the government for ignoring the immigration laws but giving Bundy a free ride on ignoring the grazing laws.

Riggs-King II.

Hannity’s a real journalist who gets it right, Stewart is a professional (in that he gets paid) comedian, but he isn’t funny, and is only right when he’s attacking his fellow Demogogic Party members.

Why not have Rush Limbaugh discuss the topic with Ed Schultz instead?

That would also be an unfair fight. Stewart and Limbaugh might be interesting.

Agree with you about Hannity..at first I liked his kind of FIRE, and I still do at times, but mostly I don't find him able to be calm.
And being calm nowadays is the new strength that got BO elected. He stayed calm while McBLAME didn't. Romney was behind the 8-ball from day 1, the MSM saw to that. And Romney-care didn't help either...

"[T]he founding fathers and the rule of law." Did Stewart mean like Hitler and Stalin?

That was the first time I've seen Stewart. I guess you have to get use to the silly antics to appreciate his draw.

I lasted a little beyond the spraying of those demonstrators at U.C. Davis, Calif.

Those newspaper clippings with the defiant comments by the Bundys.. now that sounded like our Founding Fathers!

Yeah, but unless I've heard Stewart lambasting the Obama admin, he cannot slam Hannity without being a hypocrite himself.

And as far as laws go, slavery was legal at one time. It is a citizens duty to disobey bad laws. I don't know all the ins and outs of the Bundy situation, but if other ranchers aren't complaining and are complying, he should not get special favors. I'm not a lawyer, but I will wait and see if there's more info on this matter.

The Federal grazing fee, which applies to Federal lands in 16 Western states on public lands managed by the BLM and the U.S. Forest Service, is adjusted annually and is calculated by using a formula originally set by Congress in the Public Rangelands Improvement Act of 1978. Under this formula, as modified and extended by a presidential Executive Order issued in 1986, the grazing fee cannot fall below $1.35 per animal unit month (AUM); also, any fee increase or decrease cannot exceed 25 percent of the previous year’s level. (An AUM is the amount of forage needed to sustain one cow and her calf, one horse, or five sheep or goats for a month.) The grazing fee for 2014 is $1.35 per AUM, the same level as it was in 2013.

The Federal grazing fee is computed by using a 1966 base value of $1.23 per AUM for livestock grazing on public lands in Western states. The figure is then adjusted each year according to three factors – current private grazing land lease rates, beef cattle prices, and the cost of livestock production. In effect, the fee rises, falls, or stays the same based on market conditions, with livestock operators paying more when conditions are better and less when conditions have declined.

Federal Grazing Fee At least his staff didn't let him down.. there is a connection to Reagan. Reagan appears to have extended the formula for calculating the fees, not the law itself. I do not remember the issue but it could well be that ranchers faced enormous increases and Reagan imposed limits.

Seems like we have become the culture of jargons and catchy phrases. Frank Luntz-itized and viral videos.

It takes work to find out what is ‘real’ vs what some media outlet wants you to think is real. I have this conversation w/ my own spouse from time to time. He’ll hear some snippet of news on the radio and start ranting and raving based on a 20 second sound clip. Arrgh!

The Bundy incident concerns me because now some FReepers are starting to look to Cliven Bundy himself - who is not all there - as some kind of political guru.
