Don't worry, NASA's known about it for ages. Like, four whole days.
So here’s a fun fact: while you were sleeping last night, you had a near-death experience. Yes, you – and everyone else on this lovely planet. In the wee hours of the morning, a pretty sizeable asteroid soared by the Earth, just missing it. But we’re okay. For now.
At 4:13am EDT, asteroid 2014 HL129 essentially side-swiped the Earth, coming within 186,000 miles of our planet. For reference, the moon is 238,855 miles away. Which means the asteroid was much, much closer to us than the moon will ever be. And the moon is pretty damn close. Like, we-sent-people-there-in-the-’60s close.
Oh, and why is it called “2014 HL129?” It’s because we pretty much just discovered that this asteroid exists. Yep, a rock that NASA’s Asteroid Watch says was about 25 feet wide (approximately the size of a bus) and came within space-moments of smacking our planet around was completely unknown until April 28th. Four days ago. But no big deal guys, no need to panic. We’re fine.
Just know planet-wide destruction could be under a week away and we could have no idea. Neato.

Did you ever see the Sean Connery flick “Meteor”? Surprisingly good, even with the uber-cheesy 70’s special effects.

No idea if it was a bomb; I was ~6 when it came out. Sean Connery and Natalie Wood are in it, so I watched it on cable.
Robert Wagner: Hmmm... If I had to speculate, he, Natalie Wood and Christopher Walken were all drunk off their asses and she ended up in the water, dead. I don’t think he pushed her in, but, we’ll never really know.
Speaking of unsolved Hollyweird stuff, I saw the movie “Autofocus” the other day (about Bob Crane). Wow. What a creepy freak. The guy should have just crossed over and gone into the porn industry. And I 100% think John Carpenter (not the ‘Halloween’ director) killed him. A truly shoddy job of police work by the Scottsdale PD.

That 1979 movie is pretty dumb. But I have watched it a few times because its fun and funny to watch, but haven't seen it on recently.
Natalie Wood plays Russian interpreter for the Russian scientist who is played by Brian Keith.
Both countries (US and USSR) built a satellite missile launcher pointed towards earth and kept it secret from the rest of the world.
So to save the Earth The US scientist played by Connery must convince him that both must be pointed away from the earth to blow up the asteroid. A few scenes where pre-fragments hit the earth boom.
Martin Landau plays the Russian military officer who opposes trusting the Americans.
Real dumb movie, but fun to watch, star cast in silly roles.
Kind of like the Airport movies, but they save the earth.
