'Global Warming' or 'Climate Change?': Which Is the Proper Term?

Welcome to the “to-MA-to”--“to-MAH-to” debate for discussing a toastier Earth.

A new Yale University study finds that sort of verbal switcheroo carries weight when Americans use or hear “global warming” versus “climate change.”

Depending on the political views of the person speaking or listening, the phrase “global warming” and “climate change” can evoke opposing emotions and beliefs –- and varying degrees of urgency about our obligation to respond, Yale researchers reported Tuesday.

But no matter which side of the debate a person falls on, there’s a common truth: the utterance of “global warming” is more apt to grab his or her attention than the use of “climate change” the researchers found.

For example, referencing “global warming” (as opposed to “climate change”) is linked to “a greater sense of personal threat, especially among women, the Greatest Generation (68+), African-Americans, Hispanics, Democrats, Independents, Republicans, liberals and moderates,” states the Yale report.

The study, which does not endorse or disavow any atmospheric science, had one goal –- to learn how the two terms “get interpreted by the American public,” said lead researcher Anthony Leiserowitz, a research scientist at Yale’s School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. The findings are based on two nationally representative surveys of more than 2,600 American adults conducted between November and January.

Climate change is a long term fact of life. Is it man made this next time is an unanswered question with precious little evidence other than increased CO2.

‘Climate Change’ doesn’t sound as ominous as ‘Global Warming’.

Here in TX we would very much welcome climate change if it included more rain and lower temperatures more like what they have in San Diego.

Global warming sounds pretty stupid particularly after the recent record breaking cold this past winter. However by renaming it climate change the propaganda can be fashioned to show how any weather phenomenon can be attributed to “climate change”. However, everything is still tied to the myth that increasing CO2 levels due to humans are warming the planet. That myth must be perpetuated because it is the key to greater government control.

Actually, it's more like this:

When we have extended periods of warmer than normal temperatures, they use "global warming". When we have extended periods of cooler than normal temperatures, they switch to "climate change">

It's quite the semantic racket they have going........

OK!! Everybody pay attention!

Lesson for today:

1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.

2. The sun is a ball of fire that controls the climates of all its planets.

3. The earth is one of the sun’s planets.

4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.

5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.

Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?

I won’t be fooled. I know that the activists have learned NOT to use Global Warming, because people are using their personal experience to realize that the earth hasn’t gotten hotter for the past 15 years. So the fraudsters try to obfuscate the matter my talking ‘climate change’ instead.

It should be obvious that 'Climate Change' would be the proper term.

That way, no matter what happens, it can be blamed on angry, bitter clinging, white male capitalist republicans who drive suv's.

Back in the 70’s and 80’s there was no global warming, there was no climate change . . . but, there was global cooling . . . in fact by the year 2000 it was forecasted that the upper U.S.A. and most of the world would be in another ice age and the only place to survive the freezing cold was near the equator. Yes, another ice age. Well as we know it didn’t happen . . . but then came global warming . . . now since that is in doubt, just to be correct, climate change covers both . . . and eventually one or the other will be correct and then it can be said that the forecast was right.

If it’s a hot day you use “global warming”, if it’s cold, or stormy or just pleasant, then it’s “climate change “.
