Yeah, Cruz has really stayed above the fray in this one hasn’t he? Get real! This thread was based on an item that was laughable at best. But that is about all the Cruz campaign has left. Texas and Oklahoma are behind him along with the easily manipulated caucuses in Iowa and Alaska. He has lost everywhere else big time and there are very few friendly states left. Rubio has managed to hold on just long enough to split the non-Trump vote in a bunch of upcoming winner take all states.

You have put your faith in a man who despite great intelligence, has a long family history of alcoholism, cynicism, lying and other toxic behaviors that have repelled nearly all of his personal acquaintances from his past. You can say that George W. Bush said, “I Just Don’t Like The Guy” for political reasons, but this has been echoed over and over and over again by almost everyone who has ever gotten to know Ted Cruz. It is hard to imagine that anyone believes that he has the proper disposition to be president.

But his campaign is now low on funds. Big oil is hurting right now and the other special interests who were backing him have lost their faith. As we have seen even here on Free Republic, Cruz’s base is losing interest and migrating to Donald Trump. There is only one “debate” left in the Republican primary. Just one more chance for the Cuban Tag Team and biased moderators to make Trump look bad. This race will effectively be over in another month. After that Trump will coast to an easy victory with too many delegates for the establishment to try any funny business. This petty sniping should only be viewed for what it is... extreme desperation.

The point is, you should be more outraged at the others paying themselves salaries from donations than Trump paying himself a salary from his own money. Get it now?

Ah, I was wondering about that. Now I understand why you just attack rather than debate.

My first part was a bad copy of the post I responded to.

I don’t see what Trump did as any different the rest.

Do you also work on the Trump campaign?

Well, since the vast majority of his campaign money is presently coming from himself, are you trying to say he is getting rich by paying himself?

Paying himself with his own money! How novel.

Yeah, I got it. You are cornered and trying to change the subject. I did not say one word about anyone paying anyone a salary, so get off that little diversion. I don’t care a whit that Trump gets repaid for his loan out of campaign funds. What I do care about is the blind acceptance of so many people that “If Trump says he is self funding, then the truth does not matter.” If he is self funding his ads would say “Paid for by Donald Trump”. They don’t.

LOL, you think I am going to read that rant? We come from different points of view. Mine is right of course. TED CRUZ 2016......

Strange though that so many DT supporters keep attacking CRUZ when he is not even a close contender, don't you think that strange?? Why waste your energy?

No, I'm saying when the donor money comes in (and it will), the donor money will pay off the loan he made to his campaign. The money he loaned the campaign has been used in large part to pay himself via businesses he owns. The mark-up after expenses is, of course, profit.

Looks something like this at the end of the campaign:
Loan to Campaign = $X
Loan Paid via Donor funds = ($X)
Net Actual Change to Trump = $0 (i.e. no loss)

Profit to Trump
Spending at Trump Business = $X
Cost of Services = ($Y)
Profit (X - Y) = $Z
$Z is the profit he "earns" by running for President of the United States.

Now, other candidates can get paid for running (I recall hearing you can take a "salary" equal to what you'd get paid for the Federal office for which you're running). That's how Hillary has paid herself the $$$ mentioned in a recent story posted on FR. But (<--big butt, and not Hillary's FYI), Trump can effectively do this in many multiples of the US President salary because it's funneled through his own businesses. Effectively, there's no real limit on how much he can do this via marking up the services he is "selling" his campaign. The only limit is how much he can spend on the campaign and how much he thinks he can cover via the donations that will come from folks seeking favor should he get the nomination.

As I mentioned to another poster, this is brilliant. But it also an example of a politician making big $$$ off of the process, which we're being told isn't who Trump is. It is an action versus message problem for Trump.

Sorry, the other posters mentioned salary. Your complaint is that you feel Trump should not have lent money to his own campaign?

Your position makes little sense. I suppose you prefer Jeb Bush-style, bought-and-paid-for candidates.

My complaint is just what I said. Trump is being dishonest when he says he is funding his own campaign. He loans the campaign money, the campaign spends money, donors give money to the campaign, the campaign pays Trump back the loan. He is out nothing, it is all paid for by donations. IF he wins the nomination all pretense will be gone and he will be out begging for money like everyone else, and his supporters will say he is different because he won’t promise the big money people anything in return. It will be a lie, but they won’t care, as always.

It’s politics and Trump has been a player for a long time.

The campaign is a company. Why wouldn’t you lend money to it instead of giving it as a capital injection? From a tax perspective, the former is better. I’m presuming that the campaign pays taxes—maybe you can clarify this.

Ok, now I know you are just playing, trying to avoid my point. So I will just say “Trump is dishonest about funding his campaign” and let it go at that. You keep throwing off topic road apples to duck the accusation. Goodbye.

He’s not dishonest about funding his campaign, I think you simply don’t understand what he’s doing.
