It is the question that annoyed Marco Pierre White so much he banned it from his restaurants – a hovering waiter asking, "are enjoying your meal, sir?"

And, after what happened at south Wales curry house, it is easy to see why.

When David Evans, from south Wales, and his wife Michelle gave an honest opinion to that polite enquiry they had no idea what was to come next.

"Tough and rubbery," they said.

The next thing Mr Evans knew was a raging head chef had stormed out of his kitchen and thrown chilli powder in his eyes, leaving the 46-year-old pipe-fitter sick in pain.

Mr Evans had to be rushed to hospital and have drips flush wash through his eyes.

I was thinking Fawlty Towers. Right neighborhood, either way. And you mustn’t mention the war.

Ah, these so-called chefs are all full of themselves.

I asked for salt once at some “trendy” eatery, The “chef” was put out that someone would actually question his culinary judgement.

“Well, he’s not paying for it,” I replied, to which the salt reluctantly appeared at the table.

And I’m usually a generous tipper, though wasn’t so much in this case.

The arrogance of “chefs” who merely threw a steak on a griddle sometimes amazes me. I like a little Worcestershire Sauce with my steak, or maybe shallot butter if they have it. None of their business how I enjoy my food. If I’d gone there to experience some sort of unusually fine creation from a well-known master chef, that’s one thing, but they’re glorified fry cooks and more than half the time they don’t know how to do it Pittsburgh style, which is seared on the outside, no more than mid-rare. Still with the attitude at times, though. If I get attitude I don’t go back.

People who start out early consuming spicy peppers and chili powder are actually less likely to develop ulcers later in life.

A friend in the Big Easy bought a plastic worm in a novelty shop and told another friend he was going to use it at (famous restaurant... name withheld) to freak them out with it.

His friend broke his confidence and went ahead and told the restaurant people what was afoot so they'd be prepared for it.

When the day arrived things went according to plan. He took out the plastic worm and put it in the salad..then he made a fuss saying aloud "HEY! What's with the worm in my salad!"

At that moment the kitchen doors sprang open and two big dudes in chef uniforms came out, grabbed him and took him back into the kitchen. I am pretty sure the onlookers in the restaurant who may have considered criticizing the food quickly changed their mind. Meanwhile everybody in the kitchen had a good laugh.

I was at a texas Roadhouse yesterday. The manager came over and asked how our meals were.

I said my steak was a little rough and had lots of gristle. He offered me a new one, which I declined and gave me a free meal certificate for a return visit.

I did not receive a face full of chili powder.
