4,500-year-old statue with almond-shaped eyes and bushy eyebrows in a Bronze Age child's grave

A creepy prehistoric doll with almond-shaped eyes has been unearthed in Siberia.

Another plaything, a mythical dragon-like animal head, made from antler or horn, was found alongside the artefact in the Bronze Age grave of a small child.

The finds have been added to what has been described as 'the oldest toy collection in the world' following a series of 4,500-year-old discoveries in the remote Khakassia region.

The toy, which is made of soapstone, is believed to be the oldest doll designed for play ever found.

“...almond-shaped eyes...!”

The presumptuous morons should try carving something in stone to see if they can do it another way.

"Another plaything, a mythical dragon-like animal head,..."

Those knuckleheads don't know a horse, when they see one, either.

Cracked me UP!

“Looks somewhat Inuit to me.”

That’s the first thing I thought. It looks like the Alaska natives I saw when I lived there. Siberia and Alaska are so close — probably within walking distance if the ice bridge they talk about ever existed. Lots of Russian churches in small towns in AK.

Its always possible that the guys that carved some of this were just lousy carvers.....

Maybe that why they were “buried”?

:]

More like her personal god/idol. Don’t they know history? She was probably buried with an idol made for burying with loved ones.

Don’t fertility figures have fat butts, across just about all cultures?

This one does not look fertility-esque.

I Binged her, and yeah, quite a pair on her.

For an Englishwoman she is definitely an 8.

Very good photos and extremely interesting. That said, I’m never creeped out by grave digging past a certain period of time, but it is much easier for me to imagine the heartache of the parents when I see articles like this. Very personal items in these graves versus ceremonial or status-related articles in other graves. Makes me wonder. Is it ever okay to disturb remains? Certainly would go against the wishes of the parents.

Strange thoughts today.

That’s just why I said it didn’t look like one. Yes, they do. I have a couple of old ones that were buried in Mexican fields.

And every artist was a beginner at first!

Personally I think the first pic is of a stopper for a bottle of ancient Siberian vodka. ;-)

Almond eyes and high cheek bones? Sounds kind of Asian/Amerindian to me. Even in modern times 21 miles is not all that far to boat, and even after the land bridge began to be covered, for a time the distance was less than 21 miles. Personal note: my husband was 1/16th Cree Indian, although he was a blue-eyed redhead. I have mongol tartar from my east Prussian/German ancestry. One of my sons has almond eyes and high cheekbones. Neither I, my other son, or husband had those features. Ah, the fun of genetics.
