I recently re-watched the 1948 movie “The Naked City,” which was shot in NYC and had numerous scenes filmed with unacted everyday life, probably the last film like it before TV and air conditioning drove people indoors, and having to only use paid extras meant everyone was acting.

Very cool...thanks for posting it. I presume they were filming with very bright lights off the back of the vehicle...I am sure today you would get pulled over so fast it would make your head spin.
Barely even turned heads back then.

These are background process shots for interior car scenes of the period; and because Rita Hayworth’s GILDA is seen on one marquee, I’ll lay bets this was a Columbia Pictures special effects or 2nd Unit camera crew.

I liked the pink jalopy.
Also, “Mayflower Donuts” in 1946? Somebody made a big deal out of a recent Dunkin’ Donuts story that the 1950 chain popularized that spelling of “doughnut”. I guess it was around before that.
Also, if this is LA, what is the stuff that looks like snow in some of the gutters? Garbage?
