I have rheumatoid arthritis and my right hand is the worst of all my joints. Men love to grab my hand and CRUSH it so I cry and I cannot use my hand for a week. I am an almost 70 year old granny. I try to not shake hands and men literally tell me off! Well maybe after this I will be able to shame them right back LOL

How the hell did it spread so fast from just ONE PERSON?

This is always mind blowing to me. We form a government to protect us. The taxpayers. And during times of crisis, our government goes out of it’s way to not protect us. My first taste of this was living in Los Angeles during riots #2. For the first time in my life I wanted a gun for protection. That thought occurred to me as I watched gangs attacking a police station live on tv. So guess what ? The LA mayor instantly made it illegal to sell guns in the city. Thanks bros.

Kudos on you Silentgypsy!
However though, I could see mine was not clearly written. Please accept my compliments on your commitment to science. You are a good example to us.

We are being careful that we not “practice medicine” on the one hand, but on the other hand, there has been an important decision within the science, epidemiology, virology community of “open access” and making all COVID-19 info available to all.

Though there is a wealth of misinformation about, there is not unacceptable damage being done.
Share and learn science.
Debate!
Dispute!
Confront!
Contradict!
And truth rises like the sun...

Honestly, is staying in the comfort of your beautiful home too difficult for you?

Amen.

The problem is that the Austin guidelines, which appear to be the emerging SOP for American hospitals, prohibit testing unless the victim is being admitted, and prescriptions of HCQ + Z-Pak seem to be limited to those who have been diagnosed with the Wuhan Virus. The latter is for the very proper purpose of saving enough HCQ for lupus and malaria victims.

I’d be fine with testing of any victim with comorbidities, or those over 60-65, with admission limited to those with breathing difficulties as proposed in the Austin guidelines, as long as a positive test for Wuhan Virus gets an automatic prescription of HCQ + Z-Pak. But that is NOT what is happening. What is really happening is a close to automatic death sentence for the people most vulnerable to the Wuhan Virus once they catch it.

My response was not limited to the Austin email. I specifically said it was an emerging standard nationwide.

There are AMAZING and tragically comic bureaucratic problems which I’ll get explain in Mariner’s next thread.

The various government entities have set ridiculously low figures on N95 mask production. I suspect all of them together are still too low. We might be better with no one in charge, and letting market demand determine the monthly production rate.

American manners are that the woman offers her hand, not the man. So just don’t offer it. They’ll think you don’t know any better but at least you’ll still have the use of your fingers.

I'm getting encouraged by apparent progress in developing treatments for the Wuhan Virus. Those can't halt the epidemic but they can reduce fatalities, and hopefully also long-term medical consequences to survivors such as permanent lung damage.

My initial prediction of two million American dead (of 110 million American victims) was slashed in half by the Diamond Princess testing of all on board showing that at least half of victims are asymptomatic. If effective treatments are widely available by October, I'd slash that in half again to 500,000.

And a cure by October dramatically enhances the effects of social distancing by everyone, and social isolation by the elderly and those with comorbidities, It is difficult to keep those going for a full year. Six months is doable. That could slash fatalities by half again to 250,000.

So my rough guess of 250,000 dead with a cure by October, and yours of 200,000 without a cure, are not that far apart even given our very different premises.

That's a good report from WV. I walked out in my backyard today to inspect the plum, cherry, apricot and apple trees. Just the slightest hint of leaf buds on the branches. Still have some hard frosts ahead, so I'm in no hurry to see leaves. ID weather is a bit different.

If the hydroxychloroquine cocktail treatment is as effective as Dr. Vladimir (Zev) Zelenko claims it to be, I will lower my number to 10,000 or less, provided; 1. above is true, AND 2. hospitals nationwide begin this treatment of all patients on or before 1 April. If I were POTUS, I'd order all our fighter aircraft to distribute with engines at full military power settings to our more than 4,000 hospitals nationwide, just as soon as I could get some sort of confirmation it works. Might even put some ol' F-105s back in service to help out. Church bells would be set in motion from all the sonic booms throughout this land...:)

Condolences on the loss of business. I've hung around 28 1/2 years because there is so much variety. The current contract is for a large government org doing their website. Last one I was writing performance calculations for jet aircraft, props and helicopters. It was the next generation of the software used at the Top Gun training facility (mentioned in the movie). Assignments range from embedded systems, UNIX kernel device drivers, SCADA systems in Floriday, door to door navigation systems (lots of voice recognition, geospatial databases) and specialized stuff for DoD. I love the work. Just want to stay engaged full time until ready to retire.

It gets a little more challenging to find positions when you're in the mid-60's age range.

Thanks for the post..It may save someone’s life.

That's why I share the story. It won't bring my son back, but it may help someone else avoid the same consequences.

I appreciate the information passed along in these threads. PM feedback from Black Agnes and LilFarmer has helped my household significantly. Thank you!

Hubby was in ICU March 8-11. Diabetic Acid Ketosis. NOT C.V.!

My wife had a severe seizure and DKA on Aug 26, 2019. It was then that she was reclassified a Type 1 diabetic. Since then, she has added a Dexcom G6 continuous glucose monitor and a Tandem TSlim-2 insulin pump to manage her blood glucose. She upgraded her finger stick meter to one that does both glucose and ketones. Both are monitored carefully to make sure she doesn't land in the danger zone again.

Two new seizures on Feb 23 culminated in a diagnosis of epilepsy. The anti-epileptic medication has had the beneficial side effect of making her sugar control much better.
