My parents have passed, but if they were in an infected nursing home/retirement community I would want to get him out.
They’re in a nursing home for a reason. After personally having had parents in nursing home, both my own and my wife’s, we couldn’t have provided the care or have the facilities to provide for them in anything close to what they received in the nursing home.
If we could, they wouldn’t have been in the nursing home to begin with.
If they voluntarily signed themselves in, can’t they sign themselves out too? They shouldn’t be able to hold them hostage.
No...unless they can afford 24 hr at home health care...they are in nursing home for a reason like YoYo said.
I understand that. I am more talking about those that are not in the assisted living area and are there to be with friends, socialize and play cards or hang out at the pub and eat buffets. Now they can’t see them and are locked in there rooms.
There? Really?
I put mispeellings in to attract more hits. :-)
Yeah, so it is a prison now. Stuck alone in a room with a tv and meals brought in by people in masks. Not allowed to go outside to get some sun and fresh air. Who wants to live like that? Not me.
If you're asking if "someone" can *legally* take mom and dad home, the answer is yes. Of course.
Whether or not "someone" has the *ability* to provide mom and dad all necessary care, that is a completely different question.
We took my mom out of her assisted living facility a couple of weeks after it went into lockdown.
She was having a very hard time with the isolation.
But if she was someone in need of round-the-clock care, we wouldn't have been able to do it.
“We took my mom out of her assisted living facility a couple of weeks after it went into lockdown.
She was having a very hard time with the isolation.”
Good news and God Bless you. I couldn’t imagine.
Why anyone puts their parents in a home, away from family, is unconsciousably to me.
What child does that to their parent?
Go ahead. Defend that!
and with the some of the horror stories of the entire place getting it. they may be safer at their kids house.
I didn’t put my parents in a nursing home or any other government facility. They begged me not to.
They died here in our home.
But you do you.
We didn’t count on the nursing home or the government. We take care of our own.
You know, everyone has their issues and situations. Life is like that. But anyone who tries to justify not taking care of their parents, or putting their parents in a home, well, there you are and I will never understand that.
We take care of our family.
I “cared for” my parents and I thank God every day that I did. I couldn’t imagine not doing that. Who does that?
My husband and my daughters, took care of my parents, as they should. And as my parents said to me, I say to my adult kids, please don’t ever put me in a nursing home. Ever.
Who does that? I know it’s not PC. But who does that to their parents, to anyone they say they love?
Nope.
My dad was going to go to the retirement home with the attached assisted living, he wanted too, really just not to be a burden, but he didn’t really. We talked, had a few beers and came up with a better plan ended up staying with me. I am glad he did. Passed in his sleep on his bed in my house several years later. my kids got to know him well. RIP Dad
Well, we provided that care. And yes it was hard. Awful. But we don’t throw away our family.
You can call it whatever you want. I didn’t and would never put my parents in a nursing home. Nor would I put my kids in daycare.
They’re in a nursing home because their family isn’t taking care of them for whatever reason.
“we couldnt have provided the care or have the facilities to provide for them in anything close to what they received in the nursing home”.
Keep telling yourself that.
Yes, because they don’t have family who is able and willing to take care of them.
Hopefully your kids won’t put you in a nursing home. Ever.
In Dallas, the county judge (county executive) fancies himself Napoleon. After a couple NH residents died of CV, he basically said on TV, run for your lives. He didn’t expand in the catch 22 regs he had promulgated.
We went to get my 95 yo FIL out the next morning. First story was wife and I had to test neg. $600 later, the story was FIL had to test negative. 2 days later, wife just showed up and said she was taking him to the doctor. He has been with us 2 weeks, and everyone is well.
For the first time in my life, I find myself allied with John Wiley Price. Time to shut down the shut down.
