“Nobody needs an AR-15 to hunt deer.”

Most deer shot in Alabama are the size of a rat.

Plus, what's the deal with hunting deer while the grass is still green?

Everything about deer hunting in the south is just wrong, wrong, wrong.

When we lived in Georgia from Wisconsin, I was shocked at how frail and slight the deer were there. Even the squirrels we undersized with embarrassingly unfurry tails. Armadillos were everywhere. Worse, fire ants could NOT be removed. They would be back 10 feet away with reinforcements in under a week.

Maybe you’d be happier in Wisconsin.

Red Stag Habitat – United States
In the United States, red stags can mainly be found in grasslands, woodlands, and upland moors. There is a rather substantial population in Texas where red stag hunts have become popular. Since there are no restrictions on hunting red stags, this is a year-round hobby for hunters.

I've never seen or heard of anyone, North or South, who actually goes deer hunting. Its ambush, ambush, ambush.

We live in the South because it isn't like Siberia.

Had an Axis deer show up with the goats one day. Thought of taking it, but just watched. Stayed all day. Hoped it would stay. Was gone next day, never saw it again.

Alabama has many big deer (Whitetail), just not as big as some. 180 - 200 lbs is not unusual.

New Orleans has some great restaurants, but everything else about the South is just wrong.

I admit to being a little prejudiced. Albany, New York is as far West and as far South as I ever want to live.

Don't even get me going about snakes. Poisonous snakes, aggilators, to hell with all that.

Bergmann’s rule: Northern critters are larger than southern. True of many other species.
