'Flame war' or Constitutional debate?
vanity ^ | 3/20/02 | tpaine

On the afternnoon of 3/18 Texaggie79 and I got into a type of discussion that is becoming all too common at FR.
In an effort to defend his position as a drug warrior, tex decided to attack the motives of his percieved enemies, 'the libertarians'. --- Here is that thread:

Cannabis Cafes Set To Open All Around Britain As Law Changes
Address:http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/648477/posts?q=1&&page=201

Posts #205/206 are one of our more typical exchanges. -- Shortly after our disagreement ended, -- on that thread.

Later that same evening, I had just responded to a concealed carry question at #15, - on this thread:

Sheriff says 'gun nut' concealing the truth
Address:http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/648911/posts

---- When my correspondent asked if I was still 'harrassing' texaggie. --- I denied any such intent, -- and Tex immediately posted the URL of the cannibus tread as his 'proof' of being harrassed.

Thus, Tex set off another 'flame war' between us on the same subject as the previous post.

Eventually, others on the thread protested his hijack of the thread. -- In response, I tried to show that texaggies constitutional position was not only against drugs, but could also be applied against guns.

-- Just as this point was about to be established, -- the anonomods decided that tex & I were having a 'flamewar' .
'They' - [JR?] -- suspended tex & I for 24 hrs, --- while we were in mid-discussion of a constitutional issue on gun control.

No one was violating any socalled forum 'rules' at that point, in my estimation.
I'd like to protest this rather silly form of censorship. -- Tex & I were hurting no one but each other with our exchange.

And for the umteenth time, I'd like to call for a better definition of the posting guidlelines, and for some sort of accountability from the capracious acts of the anonomods.

I won't hold my breath for a reasonable answer.
-- And please, -- spare me any more snide whine n' cheese remarks. ---- I, and many others, are well aware that the FR-PTB don't give a damn about dissenting opinions..

It makes a good bumper sticker and a good reply: "Life's too short to stay on topic"

Amusing, CJ. -- Perhaps you should address that to the big cheese himself?

Maybe you could get some brownie points.

If one state legalized it would be temporaraly worse as the addicts moved there but then it would get better after they died.

Unfortunatly not all of em die. They just linger. It's like they are immune to OD. It would remain a state with streets full of addicts until they reprohibit hard substances.

How the kids turn out will have more to do with how I am as a parent vs their own genetic makeup then a few weirdos in the park.

Alcohol doesn't have the same addiction rate. Alcohol is used responsibly by the majority of users. Hard drugs cannot be used responsibly.

And how effective would telling your kids how wrong drugs are be if they saw that drug sitting on the shelf at the local store?

I would not oppose legalization of pot, but I tend to agree with you (I think-I haven't followed everything) on hard drugs. The heavily addicting hard drugs, Meth, crack, crank, herion and their ilk have so much of their own power that using them responsibly is very nearly impossible. Meth can drive people irrepairably downhill so fast, that becoming addicted has little to do with personal strength or responsibility and everything to do with chemical reaction. I have seen it happen.

The desire of most people to be mostly law-abiding means that most people will never experiment with these drugs as long as they are illegal. Although they will always be available in dark corners, that is the only place they will be available. Legalization of everything would mean that many more, particularly young people, will experiment with it, and more good kids will be lost in the Darwinian aftermath. The fringe use of these drugs has everything to do with the stigma attached to them, and legalization will reduce much of that stigma. I was lucky to have grown up in an area where hard drugs were rare, but I experimented with what was around at the time! - The Meth problem we have today is ugly, fighting it is ugly, but I think we must.

Just MHO.

C'mon Tex think about this have you ever heard of a "responsible" use for alchohol( except to numb people before surgery in the days before novocane)?

tpaine asked for this:

I'd like to call for a better definition of the posting guidlelines, and for some sort of accountability from the capracious acts of the anonomods.

You responded with this:

You should be flamed just for starting a whole bleeping thread for your edification. What was wrong with leaving your WOD battle where it was? Gotta have a thread with your name on the top or something?

I don't care that you posted this turkey in cheese-ville.

And you with there wondering why "discussions" with you always turn to flame-fests.

Does the phrase 'The pot calling the kettle black' mean anything to you?

People do it every day. Watching tv, hanging out at a bar, at a night club, wine with a meal, at sporting events..... Most people are in full control and their lives aren't ran by the alcohol.
