Hey FReepers, I am looking for other FReepers in Orange County. We are starting a new action oriented grassroots conservative group to provide support (and opposition) for local issues. It will be very action oriented (rallies, precinct walks, phone banks, etc.) and will hold regular monthly meetings in the Saddleback Valley. If you live in the area please let me know. We are holding our first meeting a week from tonight to discuss forming the club, it will be in Rancho Santa Margarita on Monday Dec 1st at 7:00 PM. Email me if interested in getting involved jesse@joinjesse.com

Thanks!

Thanks, here are some reasons I laid out recently for the need of a new group:

I moved to Orange County several years ago from the San Fernando Valley, and up there I was part of a group that was then called the San Fernando Valley Townhall Conservatives headed up by Gary Aminoff. It was a truly inspirational group of highly dedicated individuals, grassroots to the core, who did the precinct walks, filled the phone banks, and held local officials accountable. When I moved down to OC I thought for certain I would find something similar, but I still have not. The Townhall group I was part of was not tied in with the local party, and even served as a watchdog often times when the party wasn't doing what they thought was enough to promote conservatism. Down here I have found many groups, and all serve their valuable purpose in the Republican cause, but most are either lead by local elected officials or largely social oriented rather than action oriented. To the point of leadership I ask how can local elected officials be held accountable to conservative values when they lead the club? Secondly how can we recruit and grow when most orgs are focused on themselves and not on grassroots outreach into the community, no I'm sorry I am starting this group because I see conservatism in OC slipping and I'm going to do whatever I can to keep OC in the red.

I think it’s too far for me - wish it were more Huntington Beach- area. We spend a lot of time in North County OC.

There was an attempt to revive the Orange County Chapter of Free Republic five years ago. It didn't work out. Not enough interest, I think.

There used to be a Townhall group that met in Costa Mesa, but it died about three years ago.

Yeah I use to be a member of a fantastic Townhall group in the San Fernando Valley before I moved to OC, that group luckily was able to stick around (under a new name San Fernando Valley Republican Club), but most all the other Townhalls fell apart when Salem bought out Heritage Foundation who use to own the Townhall umbrella group. They were the most fantastic groups out there before that happened, we need to rebuild something like that
