Here goes: This presidential candidate talks pro-life, but has a mixed record on abortion, including passing legislation as governor removing restrictions on abortion. In addition, the person he wants as VP is outspoken in his support of pro-choice, warning against candidates who would throw women back into back alley clinics. He talks about Christian faith, but also openly admits he very rarely goes to church. He has been a supporter of 2nd amendment rights, but also openly endorsed the Brady Bill. He wants to balance the budget partly by tax cuts, but mostly by cutting spending back to around 19% OF GDP (roughly what it was back in the 60s). He also wants a committee to oversee and review gov't regulations, and either repeal, scale back, or allow regulations based on cost benefit analyses.
I do not believe it is Reagan, as the Brady Bill came to be because of Assassination attempt on his life that left Brady paralyzed.

In fairness, Reagan never intended to pass such a liberal abortion law. The bill he signed was known as the Beilenson bill. It legalized abortion if the mother’s health was in danger. It was sold to the legislature, and to Governor Reagan, as applying only in a few extreme cases where physical trauma was present. Lyn Nofziger said Reagan only signed it after being assured of this. However, after the fact, the word “health” was interpreted as applying to anything, such as women’s “distress” over being pregnant.
It resulted in abortion-on-demand, but that was never Reagan’s intention. For years afterward, he was accused of flip-flopping on abortion and of having been “pro-choice” as governor. That was an unfair characterization. Judicial activism of the type we saw unleashed in the 1970s on abortion had not yet become the norm when Reagan signed the bill. Pro-lifers later learned that the word “health” was a loophole big enough to drive a tank through, but Reagan had no idea of that at the time of the signing.
This reminds me of something that a conservative college professor did to his liberal students. He gave them a mock election:
Candidate 1: A slave-owner who fathered an illegitimate child with a slave woman. He engaged in an armed revolution against his government. He was known to have a fiery temper. He rigidly opposed gun control and any form of government intervention in the free-market.
Candidate 2: A vegetarian tee-totaller who passed laws to combat cruelty to animals. He favored gun control and was peaceably elected to power. He supported government intervention in the free market, and favored welfare policies for the poor and economic regulations to favor the working classes.
The students overwhelmingly chose Candidate 2. The professor then said, “Congratulations. You just elected Adolf Hitler over Thomas Jefferson.”

Johnson was the best and most conservative governor in NM history. Amazing man. And his divorce happened with very different timing than you imply.
He is radical though, he is an enthusiastic believer in free enterprise. He launched a handiman business in college and built it into a multimillion dollar construction company.
He is so crazy he believes that people should generally be free to ever decide most issue in life for theirself! A Huge 2nd amendment supporter. And honest to a fault.
We won’t ever get Johnson though. Too many dense people think marijuana prohibition is the very cornerstone of American freedom.

So you are suggesting that this individual would support overturning the 2nd amendment and making the ownership of weapons illegal? Followed up, of course, by government “police” kicking down doors, throwing families on the floor and sweeping homes with metal detectors? That is the ultimate aim of Brady’s group.

Same here,, i thought Romneybot. If hes a Johnson fan, Romney would be too much of a weasel. The defining trait of Johnson is sticking to his belief, whatever popular opinion. He will pay the price for his beliefs and not bend with the wind.

Im with you on that. I actually met him at a campaign event once. I told my 4 yr old daughter, “this is the boss of all of New Mexico”. Instantly, he asked her “and do you know who my boss is?” She said Bill Clinton?
And he said, “no, you and your dad are my boss.”
I know it sounds cheesy, but the guy meant it, and showed it when he was in office. My daughter turned conservative for life hahahaaha

It seems that the image us outside of NM see of Johnson is different than what you see there. The most I’ve seen from him is palling around with Alex Jones complaining about the Trilateral Commission manipulating business and the WOD a conspiracy to keep the CIA in control of the distribution.

She is the VERY eloquent and outspoken conservative daughter of Dick Cheney.
Hmm...that’s an awfully broad brush to paint the details of a fifty-year public career. Would you follow an economist who believed in state ownership of the means of production and the dictatorship of the Proletariat? Would you if I told you his name was Thomas Sowell and that he grew out of it?
He wrote a book against abortion: “Abortion and the Conscience of a Nation.”
Like many of us, he got a clue over time. I started out pro-abortion, too.
