CHQ GOP Presidential Straw Poll: Rubio Support Dropping Like A Stone (Guess who's leading?)
Conservative HQ ^ | June 20, 2013 | Staff

Back in January and February, Marco Rubio stood at the top of the heap among prospective 2016 Republican presidential contenders. Sen. Marco Rubio Today? Not so much.

In the recently released Ipsos – Reuters poll, for example, Rubio has lost one third of the support he had earlier this spring and is now not even in the top three in the latest poll Ipsos conducted for Reuters. Marco now registers below Chris Christie, Paul Ryan, Rand Paul and Jeb Bush.

Another poll in Iowa, a key early voting state in the Republican presidential sweepstakes (conducted by Illinois-based pollster McKeon & Associates for Freedom to Choose PAC, a pro-gun group) found Rubio a distant second to Senator Rand Paul.

According to analysis of the poll by The Daily Caller, “Among voters who said they usually took part in the Republican presidential caucuses, 39 percent said they would vote for Paul if the caucuses were held today. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio was in a distant second place with 20 percent. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was at 11 percent, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush was at 10 percent, and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal was tied with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice at three percent.”

Indeed, of the major public polls, the only one that Rubio continues to do well in is – surprise, surprise – the Democrat-leaning PPP poll, which uses the notoriously unreliable “robo-polling” method.

Among the reliable limited-government constitutional conservative voters who make-up the regular readership of www.conservativehq.com, Rubio is doing even worse.

He’s right behind Dr. Benjamin Carson with less than 1 percent of the vote.

Leading our presidential straw poll with 31 percent of the vote is former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, whose reliable Tea Party principles and ability to articulate what grassroots America is thinking and feeling always makes her a sentimental favorite among limited-government constitutional conservative voters.

Closely vying for second and third place are Tea Party-backed Senators Ted Cruz and Rand Paul.

Texas Senator Cruz is, as of now, slightly edging out Kentucky Senator Paul 23 percent to 20 percent.

Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush comes in a distant fourth with 7 percent of the vote and rounding out the top five is social conservative stalwart Rick Santorum with 4 percent of the vote.

It is worth noting that Jeb Bush, certainly no conservative, and Paul Ryan and Chris Christie (two other prominent Republicans without strong conservative records or who have disappointed conservatives by abandoning conservative principles when the chips were down) did not do just a little better than Senator Marco Rubio did in our straw poll -- they did a whole lot better than Rubio did.

Of course we don’t claim that our online poll is a scientific measure of voter sentiment, but it is a sound indicator of where limited-government constitutional conservatives are looking for their next presidential nominee. And it is pretty obvious that it certainly won’t be Florida Senator Marco Rubio.

Below Jeb Bush? Wow. I didn’t think anyone was that low.

7 percent for Jebbie: that should be enough to nominate him in a divided field. People in Republican primaries truly believe in bushes for some reason unknown.

Any combination of Cruz-Palin-Paul would suit me just fine.

Her place is in the TOP SPOT. However, she was right in not running in ‘12. Voters were all over the place and they had no idea they were being played. Sarah reports to a HIGHER AUTHORITY, Who knows all and sees all. I back whatever she decides when the time comes.

At least something's right with the world today. I needed a bright ray of sunshine right about now, and that certainly did the trick.

Rubio, Christie, and Jeb Bush are completely unacceptable. I’d be thrilled with Palin or Cruz and satisfied with Paul despite his quirks.

Here is the email to Rubio’s fake conservative PAC. I’ve been having fun telling them what I think about his Immigration sellout and his new buddy, Chuck Schumer. Have at it:

This is the PAC’s website. Visit it if you can hold your food down:
