TERRI'S FIGHT
(Daily Thread 2 - October 30-31, 2003)
Link back to thread 1 - October 29, 2003

Contained in thread 1:

Summary of Terri's bone scan, transcript from "On the Record" response from Bobby Schindler and Attny. Pat Anderson to Michael Schiavo's appearance on Larry King Live, link to where to search public records for Pinellas County (for a fee), information on Terri's Lights, link to transcript from Larry King Live interview with Michael Schiavo and George Felos, synopsis of radio interview with Michael Schiavo's brother in Pennsylvania, summary of interview with Pat Anderson on Michael Reagan's show, portion of testimony from Schiavo medical malpractice trial, some links to information on the Florida death cult, names and email address for the Florida Supreme Court, information on previous GAL, Richard Pearse, Jr., information on GAL currently being proposed Jay Wolfson and links back to earlier threads on the case. Of course this overview isn't comprehensive, but my main point in this section is to provide easy reference to what could be important information. Also, links to other websites focusing on Terri's fight can be found in thread 1, here.

Thanks to everyone for your contributions and for your dedication to this fight.

This thread serves as a place for posting all new general information and references, along with links following Terri's case, plus information on cable news and talk radio shows dealing with the issue, court cases and press releases. This is also the place to post contact information, prayers and general discussion.

FL_Engineer suggested that if you have something that qualifies as BREAKING NEWS or FRONT PAGE NEWS, please post it on a separate thread in that category in order to give it maximum exposure and then post a link to the article/thread here so that it will be included in the next update of links. Also, if you post links to articles from original sources and there is also a thread on FR, please link to the FR thread. Many original links become corrupt over time and we want to be able to access the information at will.

ACLJ phone number is (757) 226-2489

I just called and pledged my support. The nice young man who answered the phone told me a motion had been filed today.

Please call them & let them know you are behind them in their fight to save Terri.

They have an Army behind them, but sometimes it helps to know this.
If the lines are busy, keep trying.

See post #70. I suppose there is probably a transcript somewhere....maybe the MSNBC website. Who are some of our trancsript finders here? Yeah, I know I could look it up, but I'm being lazy. (Well, not really lazy, it's just that I am still trying to catch up on that LONG Larry King Live thread.)

Thanks for the phone number-I searched their website and could only find an address, snail mail address, and fax number. Could not find an email address.

I am going to call and thank them...again, thank you so much for the info.

He couldn't have had her records "sealed" from discovery by the defendants.

The big question in all of this--aside from the horrendous talk of bone damage perhaps resulting from a beating-is WHY did Michael seal her medical records and prevent her family from reveiwing them?

Why? What was his point?

Smells badly? No?

re: If, as people are now saying, there was evidence of physical battering, the defendants' experts should have picked that up without any hints from the Schindlers. The story now just doesn't makes sense.)))

Yup. How I'd like an summary of the original medmal trial. And, there was no settlement, but a full jury trial.

Then the question would be, who reviewed them on the family's side? Did these professionals note their findings in court? And did the court consider their opinion, ruling in favor of Felos's doctors? I understand the affidavits of three nurses who tended to Terri and spoke to Michael's abusive behavior, both to terri and to staffers in both the nursing home and hospice, were discarded. How can this be? Is it possible to find out why their damning testimony was shuffled aside?

Dr Baden, one of the foremost criminal forensic pathologists in our nation, upon examing some of terri's medical scans (bone, x-ray), says there is a strong indication that something traumatic happened, and mentioned beating as one theory. This happened last week on the Greta Van susteranshow, On The Record, on Fox News.

Well, I've also been told that Baden loves the limelight. It is an outrageous thing for him to say unless there's documentation to back him up, no matter how OJ he is.

You know who could really have interesting things to say? Dr. Igel, the doc who had the judgement against him. From what I can read and figure out, he and his defense team went for a trial. He could probably have copped a settlement.

The PI lawyer was a guy named Woodworth, who sold the jury on the idea that there'd need to be a lot of money to pay for Terri's rehab. Wonder what his contingency fee worked out to be?

If it's a bone disease that caused all that damage in the 1991 bone scan, there should be plenty more damage 12 years later, easily confirmed by a recent scan.

Don't know how much documented info Baden had, do know he was faxed information after his appearance on Thurs eve with Greta where he cast a dubious prognosis for Terri and seemed to back Shiavo and his attn along with the other panel members.

Greta had him on the next night, Friday, and it was evident that Dr Baden had changed his mind about terri's situation, syaing he had received and reviewed medical scans relating to terri (and I am sure the additional opinions reflecting those scans) and pondering outloud if an investigation into foul play had occurred.

some stuff...

It is not clear what exactly caused Terri to collapse on February 25, 1990. What is clear is that the oxygen supply to her brain was cut off, leaving her permanently brain damaged. The most common theory is that, at the age of 26, Terri had a heart attack brought on by a low potassium level caused by an eating disorder. Another more recent theory suggests she may have suffered a serious neck injury. Terri’s husband, Michael Schiavo, a respiratory therapist and nurse, recounted that he had awakened at 5 a.m. and saw Terri collapse to the floor. Her heart had stopped beating, and her brain was without oxygen for about five minutes. [St. Petersburg Times, 1/30/00]

Almost three years later, a jury awarded Terri approximately $700,000 for her on-going medical care in a malpractice suit filed by Michael against her doctor. The case rested on the fact that her gynecologist neglected to diagnose her low potassium level even after having her blood tested. The same jury also awarded $300,000 to Michael for loss of companionship.

Ironically, during that trial Michael’s attorney, Glenn Woodworth, showed a video of Terri, and argued that, even though she was in a "vegetative state," "you can tell she has some sense of her predicament." He also pointed out to the jury that "[on the film] she knows her husband and looks into his eyes." [St. Petersburg Times, 11/12/92, 1/25/00]

Gee--$300,000 for "loss of companionship"....awwww

I believe one doctor settled, another opted for jury trial. Perhaps the bone scan was not spotted, or its contents inconclusive, and no one in the Schindler family wanted to rock Michael's boat with talk of domestic violence. Besides, he was guardian and they were dependent on him for access to Terri, and possibly in denial as well. Who wants to think that he was violent and they missed the signals? When MS got his cash and denied Terri rehab, their eyes were opened.
IMO no way could she have damaged all those bones just by collapsing on her hall floor.

Maybe he didn't have them sealed away from the defendants, but possibly the Schindlers were not aware of their existence. Couldn't the Schindlers have testified on Michael's behalf but still have no idea what was in those records? It doesn't necessarily mean that they were aware or were lying. Sometimes people only tell you as much as they want you to know, and I would bet my life on it that Michael is one such person.

Yeah.....but it helps to have money to buy a new house, an 80,000 dollar mercedeces, a 15,000 pool and provide for a child and new infant not to mention his mistress's many needs. Comfort money, don't cha know. And alas, the other 700,000 (the actual award was closer to 1.2 million-out of which came his loss of companionship money-poor baby), which was to be used to help terri live life full of therapy, cleanliness, good medical care, etc. , just ended up being spent to PAY FOR A LAWYER he needed to END HER LIFE.

Problem is....Terri, tho refused antibiotics, refused even basic motion therapy to keep her limbs from crumbling, refused TV, flowers, gifts, going outdoors, rides in wheelchair around nursing home or hospice and often DENIED access to the people who truly LOVED HER, her parents when MS decided to punish them for speaking out, whatever-(JUST IMAGINE THE HORROR MS has inflicted!) has managed to LIVE.

She must want to live- very, very badly!

Medmal defense lawyers are pretty knowledgeable and aggressive. It's really hard to imagine they didn't go over every record with a fine toothed comb for another possible cause for the collapse. I don't understand it either.
