(1) "Abuse of an elderly person or disabled adult" means:
(a) Intentional infliction of physical or psychological injury upon an elderly person or disabled adult;
(b) An intentional act that could reasonably be expected to result in physical or psychological injury to an elderly person or disabled adult; or
(c) Active encouragement of any person to commit an act that results or could reasonably be expected to result in physical or psychological injury to an elderly person or disabled adult.

A person who knowingly or willfully abuses an elderly person or disabled adult without causing great bodily harm, permanent disability, or permanent disfigurement to the elderly person or disabled adult commits a felony of the third degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084.
(2) "Aggravated abuse of an elderly person or disabled adult" occurs when a person:
(a) Commits aggravated battery on an elderly person or disabled adult;
(b) Willfully tortures, maliciously punishes, or willfully and unlawfully cages, an elderly person or disabled adult; or
(c) Knowingly or willfully abuses an elderly person or disabled adult and in so doing causes great bodily harm, permanent disability, or permanent disfigurement to the elderly person or disabled adult.

A person who commits aggravated abuse of an elderly person or disabled adult commits a felony of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084.
(3)(a) "Neglect of an elderly person or disabled adult" means:
1. A caregiver's failure or omission to provide an elderly person or disabled adult with the care, supervision, and services necessary to maintain the elderly person's or disabled adult's physical and mental health, including, but not limited to, food, nutrition, clothing, shelter, supervision, medicine, and medical services that a prudent person would consider essential for the well-being of the elderly person or disabled adult; or
2. A caregiver's failure to make a reasonable effort to protect an elderly person or disabled adult from abuse, neglect, or exploitation by another person.

Neglect of an elderly person or disabled adult may be based on repeated conduct or on a single incident or omission that results in, or could reasonably be expected to result in, serious physical or psychological injury, or a substantial risk of death, to an elderly person or disabled adult.
(b) A person who willfully or by culpable negligence neglects an elderly person or disabled adult and in so doing causes great bodily harm, permanent disability, or permanent disfigurement to the elderly person or disabled adult commits a felony of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084.

I got my email to McCabe through Sunday night. I first sent it Saturday, and it was returned.

I am not optimistic with McCabe as he is said to be "very close" to one George W. Greer.

Theodore please try to be more optimistic when taking actions. Also please do not try to predict negative outcomes. I am sorry that I am pessimistic: it's that the FL judiciary is so thoroughly corrupt that I am afraid that the "sunshine law" that Governor Bob Graham pushed in the late 1970s will not be sufficient to open these judges to the light of scrutiny. They seem to be covering up wrongdoing for one another. They are unafraid of confronting the governor, the legislature, or public opinion. It looks to be that this Baird is as bad or worse than George W. Greer.

For some reason, I had a severe enough potassium deficiency to greatly alarm my doctors (I was clueless about their concerns regarding what that defiency can cause).

The deficiency was detected while I was hospitalized for a completely unrelated problem, and was then given potassium via an i.v., which was repeated at least several times....I recall the doctor gave orders to keep having my postassium levels rechecked (I think every few hours). I don't know what caused my levels to drop. (I was not bolemic or anorexic--I did undereat, however, due to stress--I was probably about 5 to 10 lbs. under my ideal weight at the time.) In any event, the doctor couldn't figure out what caused this. As far as I know, I had no heart problems---I'm sure he would have told me.

I agree with your assessment of daylate---he has also been combative with me and a few others in the same way as he was with you.

Friday night we went to a dance. A woman at the table with us, when referring to Terri, said, "Oh, she's brain dead." I tried to correct her misconception but she insisted that "she's brain dead" and she started to get irritated so I just dropped it. Some people just will not keep an open mind and there's no way to get through their thick skulls. This woman is also pro abortion.

Is there anything, um, "medical" or "Claus von Bulow-like" that Michael could have done to Terri that would have caused her to collapse in the way she did? And if so, could the ER have missed it?

It is much easier for some people to process things by ignoring facts I guess. A lot of people, sadly, are really burdened by having to think things through, so they just make a presumption based on what someone somewhere has said, and dismiss it, especially if it is about something that makes them personally uncomfortable or makes them feel vulnerable. Some people spend their entire lives building a protective facade and they can be very selective about what penetrates it. Then they can claim ignorance and avoid responsibility for the shape of society.

I was reading a delightful novel today. Its setting could hardly be further from Terri's case. Yet as I read, I came upon an insight that just jumped off the page, as if I'd been pinged by the Lord. An epiphany.

It was about George Felos. Namely, that like every other bully, he must be frightened and unhappy inside.

Do you know what I think he's afraid of? Dying. He is obsessed with death and dying. I think he must be terrified of dying. I think all this bullying and truth-twisting and madness is all about his fear of dying. I think he believes he is sending others to their deaths in his place. If you feed the Beast, maybe the Beast won't eat you... at least not so soon.

It's ironic. The more he gets into this death culture, the further he gets from the comfort that God alone could give him.
