FR Birthday Card: Greetings, Prayers for Terri Schindler-Schiavo

The intention of this thread is to gather the greetings, prayers, and well-wishes of all who share a concern and love for Terri Schindler-Schiavo. These can then be printed out to be given to Terri’s family. So many have posted here about Terri over the last several years! Please come back for a moment to ‘sign a card’ that will be given to Terri on her birthday Dec. 3 at the hospice in Pinellas Park. Leave a prayer or greeting if you’d like.

Thanks to all who have been concerned for Terri and have been motivated to act on her behalf regardless of their own limitations, sicknesses or problems. It has been awesome to know what some did or are doing while dealing with their own challenges. This is not limited to Free Republic -- at least one law firm a few years back closed to other business for a period of time to dedicate themselves to Terri’s situation, apparently pro-bono.

Looking into the dusty Free Republic archives reveals much about how you have affected others.

She's awake, she laughs, she responds, she swallows. Let her family care for her, period. "Home for the holidays" -- why not?

Dear Terri,

Your story jumped out at me from the headlines. How could this be happening? I wanted to know. Understanding what has happened to you in Florida became a part of a much larger search to understand how this could be happening today, in an supposedly enlightened society. How far have we come from the Holocaust? Where will this lead us, if it continues?

Aside from the philosophical questions, the need for action is immediate and ongoing. Throughout your latest, and hopefully last, ordeal without food and water, I reflected on the power of so many people, many knowing each other only through the internet, all praying for divine intervention.

By a miracle which I do not yet fully understand, and never will, things were happening quickly behind the scenes as sand slipped through the hourglass marking your court-enforced punishment for a crime that doesn't exist - the "crime" of being disabled and needing care.

My heart broke with the weight of the suffering inflicted on your family and friends throughout their long battle to keep you alive, Terri. I wept for you, I prayed for you, and I rejoiced when Governor Jeb Bush, a true humanitarian, signed the Executive Order restoring the most basic of all life's necessities - your food and water.

Though your journey is far from over, and the future holds more legal battles, today is your birthday, a time to celebrate the gift of life and the blessings of love, friends, and family.
