Beatrice O'Rourke, graduate of Wilberforce University, Ohio State University and long time Central State Professor and Wilberforce resident, departed this life on January 29, 2004, in Crown Point, Indiana, after a long illness.
Mrs. O'Rourke, was appointed to the faculty of the new state school (Central State) in 1948, by President Charles Wesley. She embraced the opportunity to inspire others to study, appreciate and enjoy music as she did. She was the Directress of the famous Central State Ensemble, pianist for local churches, soloists and various musical events.
Mrs. O"Rourke will be remembered for the impact she made on the lives of hundreds of young, talented music students, many of whom have received international acclaim, such as soprano, Leontyne Price.
Mrs. O'Rourke along with the late William A. O'Rourke owned an operated the historical "Old Mill" restaurant and motel, located near the Central State campus.
After retirement Mrs. O'Rourke continued to support Central State and her neighboring community, through active participation in civic and professional organizations to include Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and her beloved neighborhood bridge club.
She is survived by her four children, Kathleen, Diane, William, Jr. and Ernest, nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two sisters and a host of nieces and nephews.
---------------- My grandmother lived a long, full life. She was in her nineties and moved in with my folks a couple of years ago. She had been sick for a very long time, and I know that she is far better off now than she was while she was ailing.
But that doesn't make it much easier to handle.
I've been here typing away since I found out, and my mood has swung through highs and lows.
After tomorrow night, I'll fly up for the services in Xenia, OH. Though I'll get to see a lot of family that I haven't seen in many moons, it will be under difficult circumstances at best. Not only that, I've gotta leave She-who-must-be-obeyed here with the kids.
I've got a long road ahead of me this week. I could use an extra prayer or two....

Oh Geez Oh man, please be self-indulgent. You deserve it. Losing someone is the hardest thing that can happen to one. Thank you for sharing her story, she was a great lady. My prayers are with you and your family. I wish I could just give you a big hug.

Not self indulgence at all. Prayers for YOU and your grandma. By now I suspect she's already met up with my Mom who was also an extraordinary woman, and died at 83. They'll keep busy comparing ideas, as well as watching us down here. I miss my Mom a lot, always will. Never met any grandmothers, unfortunately.
