Punk the prez? - Moby's anti-Bush tricks
New York Daily News ^ | 2/09/04 | Rush & Molloy

One of Sen. John Kerry's celebrity supporters is ready to pull out all the stops to get him elected. Republicans are shrieking over a suggestion by rocker Moby that Democrats spread gossip about President Bush on the Internet. "No one's talking about how to keep the other side home on Election Day," Moby tells us. "It's a lot easier than you think and it doesn't cost that much. This election can be won by 200,000 votes."

Moby suggests that it's possible to seed doubt among Bush's far-right supporters on the Web.

"You target his natural constituencies," says the Grammy-nominated techno-wizard. "For example, you can go on all the pro-life chat rooms and say you're an outraged right-wing voter and that you know that George Bush drove an ex-girlfriend to an abortion clinic and paid for her to get an abortion.

"Then you go to an anti-immigration Web site chat room and ask, 'What's all this about George Bush proposing amnesty for illegal aliens?'"

Moby didn't claim that he believed the abortion story.

Last month, Bush did propose reforms to immigration policy. But he insisted, "I oppose amnesty, placing undocumented workers on the automatic path to citizenship [because it] perpetuates illegal immigration."

Republican National Committee spokeswoman Christine Iverson likened Moby's proposal to "dirty campaign tactics we're already seeing from John Kerry."

"His campaign was willing to use these kinds of voter suppression tactics against members of his own party in Iowa and New Hampshire," Iverson says. "John Kerry is a hypocrite. He pledged to run a clean campaign. Then he uses the lowest form of gutter politics to impugn his opponents, Democratic and Republican. It's unfortunate but this is probably just the beginning of the kind of tactics we're going to be seeing from John Kerry in the months to come."

Kerry spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter said, "I doubt that Moby was suggesting anybody suppress the vote. We did not use any dirty tactics against any candidate.

"When it comes to dirty tricks the Republic party wrote the book. We've already seen Republican attacks and we haven't even won the nomination yet. The Republican Party is clearly afraid of John Kerry."

Your link was interesting,at least.

I'd heard of that site and was thinking about taking a look at it but feel awful nasty after that little read.Don't believe I could stomach some of those people.

Kind of sick,too.

Pretty sad when folks need tricks and lies to get by.

Should the whole thing be posted here to let everyone see it?

That thread is quite something isn't it?

That Eris guy doesn't sound really stable. He's probably just young and showing off, but you never can tell.

I think it's funny that he thought this plot would bring down FR.

I wondered if he was implying that he had 223 screen names or if he meant that his "posse" numbered at that.

As far as the entire thing being posted I don't really know what the rules are.

I will have to defer that to someone else. I personally think it would be fun to post all or most of it and make sure they understand that we know and we think they are pretty silly.

I can only imagine some of the comments that would be posted by the incredible wit here on FR. Of course that may just make them more determined to cause trouble.

Who knows!

AM,the link in post #2 was quite an eye opener for me.

Should the whole sickening thing be posted here to show to everyone or is it best to just scrub the filth off and try to forget it?

Texasflower, thanks for the link.I really got a wakeup that I was needing from it. :)

Of course. Freepers are perceptive, not paranoid, and could see what was happening.

Real Freepers, in other words, can spot a fake one a mile away.

LOL

"Then you go to an anti-immigration Web site chat room and ask, 'What's all this about George Bush proposing amnesty for illegal aliens?'"

As I (and others) have been saying, plainly and persistently, since Day One. The pro-liberal agenda 'Rats and replicants have been all over this site, whinnying various and sundry variations of: "... I'm a lifelong Republican, but I've just now decided that George W. Bush is actually [Insert DU or MoveOn Lie Here]."

Jim -- in case you're wondering how best to identify these:

Kerry - 2% (from the current FR poll)

Start the purge there.

The number of "I'm a conservative but I'm not voting for Bush because of INSERT FRINGE ISSUE HERE" posts has drastically increased and not all of them are legitimate discussion by actual conservatives.

Shut them down with WWOD*

Two can play at that game, Mr Moby. So tread lightly.

Some of us on the Right can be masters of deceit and misdirection to rival the most vile of Leftist spin-doctors. (I myself used to incite riots in school for my own amusement.)

I also run my own website (with unlimited bandwidth), know Flash MX and Photoshop, and have an eloquent poison pen that I use to savage anyone who raises my ire.

Moby needs to be knocked down a few notches, but one would think that having his status reduced from techno-pop Wunderkind to corporate-whore jingle-writer would have already done the trick.

On second thought, perhaps it was his fall from stardom that prompted his new-found political meddling. Once in the media spotlight, it's hard to give up once your 15 minutes of fame runs down.

Trolls are zotted every day on FR and those sign on dates don't do much to protect the sleeper accounts. The administrators can check all of a poster's activity.

I'm a conservative who disagrees with GWB's immigration plan. I don't know Moby.

There are plenty of conservatives who disagree with President Bush on this or that policy. And the grievances may be justified. What the Man Who Calls Himself Moby seeks to do is stir up apathy among conservatives so ABB (anybody but Bush) wins. Moby himself doesn't support the views on abortion, immigration, etc. that he wants to use to anger conservatives.

We have to have a president come Jan 20th 2005. Right now we are faced with the real world prospect of President Kerry, President Edwards, President Dean, President Clark, President Clinton (co-presidents Hillary and Bill), or else re-electing George W. Bush.

Vote for whoever you want but these are what we actually face in January.

Have you guys looked at this site?

I think you'd better. It spells out what I've been suspecting for a while now, and with all the new sign-ups, I think they're off and running.

Also forgotten is that the George Bush campaign did not fund those "Willy Horton" ads with the revolving door.

Anyone can run such a spot. Wallace was approached by the KKK during his campaign and offered to endorse or reject his candidacy; whichever Wallace thought would get him more votes.

Moby belongs to a party with youth who are largely undecided until watching MTV's "Rock the Vote" specials, meaning that everything they know about global events they learned from Limp Bizkit and Korn.

But but but... Rock the Vote is a "non-partisan" get out the vote organization. You mean that they are lying liars who only promote the liberal agenda (see their links for the undeniable truth)? You mean that Moby would work to "get out the vote" among one crowd and then persuade another crowd (through lies and distortions) to stay home rather than voter

What a lying liar Mr. "Moby" is.
