I've seen prayer requests before on FR, but never submitted one myself...now I find a need to, so here goes: I have a friend, I'll just refer to a "J". When I met her she was a professional, attractive, well-mannered and from a good family, single young mother of a son who was trying to repair her life after a disasterous divorce. She was a bit too young for me, so the chemistry was never quite right. But we do/did a lot of things together and still attend the same church.

In the past year I have seen her life spin out of control. She was fired/asked to resign from her job...she has much difficulty in finding another in her chosen profession and seems resigned to little hopes of ever working in it again.

Friday of last week I asked her to help me on a project I am working on in grad school and she came over...that was when the proverbial stuff hit the fan.

She informed me that she was in a relationship with an ex-convict on parole (manslaughter). (He was living 2 houses down with his g.f., and having the time of his life with both women at the same time). Anyway, my friend is believing all the lies this lowlife is spilling out (he even told her that he had to stay with his g.f. because she blackmailed him with a rape charge).

I want to support her, but I'm at a wits end. She has zero self-esteem, or hope it seems, but I am wrapped up in her and her son's life.

At this point I don't know if I should continue to be a friend or wash my hands of the whole situation. As reported, she doesn't come from trash but has seemedly chosen a life in the gutter with garbage.

What should I do? Any suggestions? My hope is that prayer will help...

I don't know what to tell you, except that I will pray for the wisdom of God to guide you and her.

I'd be concerned about a child living in such an environment. However, watch your step with the girl. She could be trouble, make a lot of trouble for you.

As hard as it may seem, sometimes the kindest thing to do it to let them go and let them know you'll still be there if and when they choose to come back. Prayers go out to you both.

Keep in mind she is living like that because she feels she doesn't deserve any better. Get her some pastoral help.

You and your friend have my prayers. Jumped in the shower and was going to respond when I got out but previous posters gave almost the same good advice I was going to. Please let us know how this turns out, I hope it's a good ending.

She has to get away from that bum, and soon, but I don't think you're the one to tell her.

Show her Psalm 139 and remind her who loves her first and most. Then ask her that if she knew a love like that, would she settle for the jerk she is with.

The rest you cannot do.

Suggest she speak with the minister of your church and stop inviting her into your home.

Father God you know all the trials and tribulations that we are going thru you,we come to you in prayer for a young woman that needs your devine instruction.Lord reveal truth from the lies she is believing. Lord reveal light from darkness. Father God you know here heart, she appears to be so very lost in this world. Direct her back towards you, allow here to be able to discern concerning her present life. Lord comfort my brother, direct him in the ways he should go, and the christian way he should conduct himself with this young woman. Comfort his heart, and his mind. Lord give him the proper words to speak at the appointed time, give him an increase in knowledge and wisdom, so he will be used by you Father God to assist this young woman in here dillusionment being in this world. Allow this brother to be used mightly by you Father God, in Jesus name. My brother there is a movie comming out by Mel Gibsen, The Passion of Jesus Christ. I would highly recommend taking this lost soul to that movie. This movie is going to be the best evanglism tool in our present days on this earth! This woman and you need to allow the Holy Spirit to do his will, not man's will, but God's will be done. May God speak to you thru this prayer. Missionary David Galindo

You be careful.
Don't give her money.

Pray for her, but there may come a time when you have to wash your hands of her.

Watch for signs the son is being abused/neglected.

Whatever you do.....don't stop praying for her and her son! Continue going to church with her. You need to seek The Lords counsel.....we can never completely understand why God brings people into our lives...but I am a firm believer in that it is for us to help...to have empathy and for us to be strong for them and to learn how to be better human beings.
You have my prayers....place you hurts, your hopes, your questions and needs at the foot of His Throne....He can best answer them all! God Bless!!

Is she on drugs or drinking? If so the first step would be to get her out of there. However, you can't help someone who doesn't want it. In this case prayers are all you can offer and I will pray for her too.

Better be careful, friend. You might find yourself wrapped in a body bag.
