FREE REPUBLIC NETWORK LAUNCHES WEB SITE ON "WINTER SOLDIER INVESTIGATION" AND KERRY SLANDER OF U.S. TROOPS IN VIETNAM

(Washington, DC) The Free Republic Network today announced the unveiling of www.WinterSoldier.com, a new web site to provide news, analysis and research material regarding the false claim by John Kerry and others during the Vietnam era that atrocities were routinely committed by America's military.

In 1971 former Navy Lt. John Kerry testified before the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations about American "war crimes" in Southeast Asia, which he described as "not isolated incidents but crimes committed on a day-to-day basis with the full awareness of officers at all levels of command". Free Republic Network Director Scott Swett released the following statement:

"John Kerry played a key role in the leftist disinformation campaign that undermined support for the war by slandering a generation of American soldiers as mass murderers of civilians. Kerry testified before the Senate that the United States committed war crimes in Vietnam as a matter of military policy, citing claims of atrocities made at the discredited 'Winter Soldier Investigation' -- an event primarily funded by Jane Fonda."

"The truth is that atrocities were the exception in Vietnam, not the rule."

"Since Senator Kerry has made the strength of his military record a key issue in his pursuit of the Presidency, it is important for voters to have access to a more complete picture of his actions than is available from the Kerry campaign or the media. WinterSoldier.com will document and analyze the activities in which Kerry and others participated during the Vietnam era."

The site features a section on Kerry's hard-to-find 1971 book "The New Soldier" and covers the activities of the group Vietnam Veterans Against the War and its sponsors. New information will be added as it becomes available. Readers are invited to provide feedback, submit editorial pieces, and provide relevant material. The site will go live on Monday, February 23, 2004.

The Free Republic Network www.FreeRepublic.net is a 501(c)(4) public service corporation whose mission is to organize, train and support conservative activists nationwide. It provides information and organizational services to more than 50 regional and issue-based chapters around the country, and serves as the activism arm of the Free Republic Forum www.FreeRepublic.com.

Someone should remind Kerry that you can't wrap yourself in an American Flag after you've burned it.

The front page should get across easily digested information because most people won't have the patience to read 8548754 pages. Still make sure to provide the depth for those that want it.

Okay. We trimmed it down a bit, and added a link to a "key points" page.

See what you think now.

With all due respect, McGovern never was "out of control" as Admiral Zumwalt has been quoted as saying of Kerry. Nor did McGovern in any way seek to cooperate with Hitler and Tojo to udermine our military effort, he waited until Stalin's successors and Mao and Ho Chi Minh to undermine the country.

Well, several of my Vet friends from the Post Office told me they would shoot at farmers and water buffalo as their convoy was going by.Now maybe they were LYING and trying to"go for bad"but I took them at their word.
Did you ever read William Manchester's account of his years in the Pacific Theatre in WW2?He witnessed a number of incidents where surrendering Japanese soldiers were shot in cold blood.Nowhere near the level of mass torture and slaughter the Japanese commited but war IS Hell and s*** happens.
I have absolutely NO interest or am in any way supportive of Kerry.Hell,if I had been in Vietnam I would most likely want to get some pay back also for those bastards who killed my buddies.

"There is no way to spin this, if you think searching for US "war atrocities" to make Kerry out to be a liar is an admirable quality, I question your morality...its just plain wrong.
"

So what do you suggest we do Rebel? Just sit back and let the RATS create lies and spread them as the truth?

Are we suppsoed to remain silent while the truth goes un-reported?

We don't have to make John F'n Kerry out to be a liar. His own words...entered into the Congressional Record in 1971, his actions with VVAW and his lack of support for every weapons system in use today in the military highlight on their own that his "war hero" status is a fraud and a sham.

Scott Swett in his article on Townhall.com said that there was something like 2.6 million soldiers who served in Vietnam from 1963-1972 and there were only 203 doccumented cases of war crimes. Compare that to Detriot in 1972 when it was a city of 1.5 million people and over 600 murders in one year alone!

Kerr's claim of atrocities happening "everyday" withers when it's held against the light of statistical facts.

Ok time to feel embarassed. I got into the thread late and if I've read correctly Scott Swett and Interesting Times are the same person.

I hope I remembered the portion of your article I quoted correctly.

BTW...It was a very good article.

I wonder why no one has asked John F'n Kerry why HE hasn't come over here to see firsthand to progress being made in Iraq and if he plans to if he gets the nod as the RATS candidate?

Paul Galanti learned of Kerry's speech while held captive inside North Vietnam's infamous "Hanoi Hilton" internment camp. The Navy pilot had been shot down in June 1966 and spent nearly seven years as a prisoner of war.
During torture sessions, he said, his captors cited the antiwar speeches as "an example of why we should cross over to (their) side."

Your point is well taken. It is also true, however, that McGovern made the unfathomable distinction that the war he fought against Hitler as a bomber pilot was a "good war" whereas any war against communists was a "bad war." This allowed McGovern who engaged in the bombing of Danzig (concededly a military necessity) to denounce Vietnam War B-52 pilots for doing precisely what McGovern had done and also for military necessity (such as Ho Chi Minh placing anti-aircraft guns in the courtyard of a Hanoi children's hospital).

As with Kerry, I will refrain from regarding McGovern as a hero since he dishonored those who sacrificed in Vietnam to attempt to stop Ho Chi Minh and communist expansion. Unless and until either apologizes credibly as Joan Baez did, I am not going to go around with the mantra of "Thank you for your service" on my lips as to either of them. McGovern and Kerry are both part of the problem and not part of the solution.
