A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; starting today our weekends will begin on Friday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

Which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?

How many lives shall I touch today?
How many neighbors will pass my way?
I can bless so many and help so much
If I meet each one with a Christlike touch

Your love for your neighbor is proof of your love for God.

A Good Neighbor

Read: Luke 10:25-37

Which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves? —Luke 10:36

Bible In One Year: Numbers 17-19; Mark 6:30-56

When Fred Rogers died February 27, 2003, scores of newspapers carried the story as front-page news, and almost every headline included the word neighbor. As host of the long-running children's television show Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, he was well known to millions of children and their parents as a kind, gentle, warm person who genuinely believed "each person is special, deep inside, just the way they are."

Mr. Rogers once told a journalist: "When we look at our neighbor with appreciative eyes, . . . with gratitude for who that person truly is, then I feel we are arm in arm with Christ Jesus, the advocate of eternal good." Because Rogers recognized the value of each person, he believed in being a good neighbor to all.

When Jesus was asked, "Who is my neighbor?" He told the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:29-35). At the conclusion of this story, the Lord asked, "Which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?" The answer? "He who showed mercy on him" (vv.36-37).

Who in our "neighborhood" needs a kind word, an arm of friendship, or an act of encouragement today? Jesus calls us to show love and compassion to others as we love God with all our heart, and our neighbor as ourselves. —David McCasland

How many lives shall I touch today?
How many neighbors will pass my way?
I can bless so many and help so much
If I meet each one with a Christlike touch. —Jones

Your love for your neighbor is proof of your love for God.

Dutchess and dixie sass asked about current pics of our grandbabies, Leila and Ashley on Mondays thread, so here they are, they may not be the best quality but they are the latest pictures.

Leila Kay shows us what winter in Florida is all about.

Here's Ashley, as her Mama says she's turned into a little chunk after all her early problems.

Heaven or Hell..

While walking down the street one day, a female senator is tragically
hit by a truck and dies. Her soul arrives in heaven and is met by St.
Peter at the entrance.

"Welcome to Heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems
there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts,
you see, so we're not sure what to do with you."

"No problem, just let me in," says the woman.

"Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is
have you spend one day in Hell and one in Heaven. Then you can choose
where to spend eternity."

"Really, I've made up my mind. I want to be in Heaven," says the senator.

"I'm sorry but we have our rules." And with that, St. Peter escorts her
to the elevator. And she goes down, down, down to Hell. The doors open,
and she finds herself in the middle of a green golf course. In the
distance is a club and standing in front of it are all her friends and
other politicians who had worked with her. Everyone is very happy and in
evening dress.

They run to greet her, hug her, and reminisce about the good times they
had while getting rich at expense of the people. They play a friendly
game of golf and then dine on lobster and caviar. Also present is the
Devil, who really is a very friendly guy who has a good time dancing and
telling jokes.

They are having such a good time that, before she realizes it, it is
time to go. Everyone gives her a big hug and waves while the elevator
rises. The elevator goes up, up, up, and the door reopens on Heaven
where St.Peter is waiting for her.

"Now it's time to visit Heaven." So 24 hours pass with the head of state
joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing
the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before she realizes it,
the 24 hours have gone by, and St. Peter returns.

"Well, then, you've spent a day in Hell and another in Heaven. Now,
choose the place where you want to spend eternity."

She reflects for a minute and then answers: "Well, I would never have
said it, I mean Heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be
better off in Hell."

So Saint Peter escorts her to the elevator, and she goes down, down,
down to Hell. Now, the doors of the elevator open, and she is in the
middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. She sees all her
friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black
bags. And it's hot, hot, hot. Sweltering hot. Hot and miserable. The
Devil comes over to her and lays his arm on her neck.

"I don't understand," stammers the senator. "Yesterday I was here, and
there was a golf course and club, and we ate lobster and caviar and
danced and had a great time. Now all there is a wasteland full of
garbage, and my friends look miserable."

The Devil looks at her, smiles and says, "Yesterday we were
campaigning... today you voted for us."

Amen - TGIF. On a less lighter note, I'm sure most of you know Logan a.k.a. Texas termite, who was born last Augusts 26 weeks premature. It is a miracle that this precious child is still with us, and I ask that you pray for him especially today as he is having another operation (7 months old) this morning. Last I heard it was at 11:00.

I don't know how to link threads but if you do a search on Texas Termite (as poster), it will bring you to his web site. I didn't have permission from his family to post this, but I don't feel they would object.

Thanks for indulging me.

LOL, I've heard the same joke with the senator being a human resources director. "Yesterday was Recruitment Day. Today is work."

Hi all..

Enjoy each of your daily contributions.. I don't post here much due to time restraints but normally do read thread..

Thank you.

I did see Passion Wed night. Glad I did. I am a bit annoyed with Christians (sorry if this hits one of your nerves).. who don't want to "experience this"... If you claim Christ's gift of life.. you well better be able to see what he did for you. Much easier than " his role".

We in America too often are too pampered & too sheltered.. (and woos-es - however one spells it)

Academy awards this weekend. I am a pretty crazy movie addict & so will watch. Have seen all of nominated films & have my "hope so" list. I have some things to throw at screen if someone pulls a "Michael Moore" again this year.

Duchess. hope our get together (I think in March) will be time friendly for all to attend..

Thanks DollyCali. Sadly they are about 11 hours away, we're in the Dallas area and they are in Pensacola, Fl. They are a little closer than when they were in Rapid City, SD. We miss them a lot, this is the age they are constantly doing something new and generally funny. Ain't grandkids great!!
