Statement by the founder of Free Republic
Free Republic ^ | Jim Robinson

Posted on 03/22/2004 6:22:17 PM PST by Jim Robinson

I posted the following statement to our front page in response to the criticism I'm receiving lately as to not being fair and balanced and perceived mistreatment of trolls and assorted malcontents. Got news for all, I'm NOT fair and balanced. I'm biased toward God, country, family, liberty and freedom and against liberalism, socialism, anarchism, wackoism, global balonyism and any other form of tyranny. Hope this helps.

Statement by the founder of Free Republic:

In our continuing fight for freedom, for America and our constitution and against totalitarianism, socialism, tyranny, terrorism, etc., Free Republic stands firmly on the side of right, i.e., the conservative side. Believing that the best defense is a strong offense, we (myself and those whom I'm trying to attract to FR) support the strategy of taking the fight to the enemy as opposed to allowing the enemy the luxury of conducting their attacks on us at home on their terms and on their schedule.

Therefore, we wholeheartedly support the Bush Doctrine of pre-emptive strikes on known terrorist states and organizations that are believed to present a clear threat to our freedom or national security. We support our military, our troops and our Commander-in-Chief and we oppose turning control of our government back over to the liberals and socialists who favor appeasement, weakness, and subserviency. We do not believe in surrendering to the terrorists as France, Germany, Russia and Spain have done and as Kerry, Kennedy, Clinton and the Democrats, et al, are proposing.

As a conservative site, Free Republic is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-gun, pro-limited government, pro-private property rights, pro-limited taxes, pro-capitalism, pro-national defense, pro-freedom, and-pro America. We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc. We also oppose the United Nations or any other world government body that may attempt to impose its will or rule over our sovereign nation and sovereign people. We believe in defending our borders, our constitution and our national sovereignty.

Free Republic is private property. It is not a government project, nor is it funded by government or taxpayer money. We are not a publicly owned entity nor are we an IRS tax-free non-profit organization. We pay all applicable taxes on our income. We are not connected to or funded by any political party, news agency, or any other entity. We sell no merchandise, product or service, and we offer no subscriptions or paid memberships. We accept no paid advertising or promotions. We are funded solely by donations (non tax deductible gifts) from our readers and participants.

We aggressively defend our God-given and first amendment guaranteed rights to free speech, free press, free religion, and freedom of association, as well as our constitutional right to control the use and content of our own personal private property. Despite the wailing of the liberal trolls and other doom & gloom naysayers, we feel no compelling need to allow them a platform to promote their repugnant and obnoxious propaganda from our forum. Free Republic is not a liberal debating society. We are conservative activists dedicated to defending our rights, defending our constitution, defending our republic and defending our traditional American way of life.

Our God-given liberty and freedoms are not negotiable.

May God bless and protect our men and women in uniform fighting for our freedom and may God continue to bless America.

Jim Robinson

Good post.

I'd like to add that we all have to remember this site belongs to Jim Robinson, not us, not anyone else. Sure, we contribute because we want to but that doesn't give us a vote in how it's ran anymore than buying groceries gives you a say in the management of the store.

Jim could convert the site to the worship of James T. Kirk and there is nothing I or anyone else could do about it.

I truly do not understand the mentality of people the whine about his management or his views. They may pretend to be conservatives and/or Republicans but anyone complaining the site doesn't fit their view of how it operates is really just anohter whiney left wing liberal deep down that thinks they are entitled to something they aren't.

My favorite whine is about "free speech". What about it? Go start your own website and ask people to contribute. It's interesting the majority of these whiners would be the first to tell others to just "turn the channel" when something objectionable comes on TV or radio as they ignore the FCC rules.

I personally appreciate Jim's forum and he's very fair and open about allowing us to post our opinions and even have fun goofing off.

Try this on other forums or groups. They'll censor you so fast it will make your head spin. Especially the "tolerant" left wing sites like DU. Years ago we did this at Compueserve in the GOP and DEM forums (Political Debate and Issues forums also) and their rules were ridiculous and unequally enforced.

At least here you can sometimes slap around a moron without getting suspended or removed like the GOP Forum at Compuserve would do (I got banned for telling some idiot woman she probably loved servicing Hillary). The DEM Forum was less tolerant of anything conservative and would be banned out of hand but their attacks on others was okay.

As usual, the GOP folks held to rigid rules. I found Free Republic through the forum (ah, the good old days of 1995-1999 when we'd log into Compuserve, select and download posts, reply offline and log back in to post to keep the costs down with a 2400 baud rate and $1.95 an hour surcharge). I joined in early 1998 but never really posted much back then because of said 2400 buad rate (I think I got a 9600 rate modem in 1999 and finally 26K in 2000) and my crappy Mosaic internet software through Compuserve.

I finally got a 56K modem but it wasn't worth the trouble with Compuserve. Then I bought a new system and used Internet Explorer through my CIS account but I wasn't thrilled.

So in the summer of 2001 I got a cable modem and upgraded my system (a friend did it for free - lucky me). Now I'm cranking it out at light speed with a better and cheaper equipment full of megabyte power and I can't stop posting here.

God knows I've tried to take a break! lol

I think JimRob and the admins have done an excellent job of separating the wheat from the tares...

I think they've done a good job if certainly an imperfect one. I think they can sometimes be overly heavy-handed , though there are indeed times when FReep is under coordinated attack and most FReepers aren't aware of it.

But I really wish there was a Free Republic suggestion box, maybe just a vanity post, looking for a compilation of good ideas, suggestions for improvement, or notations of minor glitches that require tweaking.

The best possibility is that Jim Rob would post such an offering himself, as with this one, and that it might turn into a FReep front-page link or institution. That could include the hopeful return of such worthy previous efforts as the FReeper photo album, as noted by WSG in #389, my own hope, a means to *bookmark* fellow FReepers just as we now can bookmark FReepposted articles, and some way of bringing us kicking and screamning into the XXI Century with sound/video multimedia files. There are probably as many good ideas as there are FReepers, or variations of such ideas, or knowledge of means by which they might be made to work.

One thing I am certain of: JimRob and the mods and janitors have done a better job of assembling this place and keeping it going than any individual could have, myself most particularly included. I work much better with much smaller groups and forums; one this large is WAY out of my league.

Your mention of Compuserve made me try to strain my memory. Was Free Republic a forum on compuserve too? There was a conservative forum on Compuserve, I believe it was called Town Hall, right? I got my dear husband there. LOL. It wasn't all THAT long ago; you'd think I would remember.

America has stood for so much, why can't she still today? My guess: We've become so divided we have willingly weakened ourselves to a point beyond historical recognition. Our strength, our power, and dominance in the world today means nothing if we allow ourselves to remain divided into lessor factions.

United, there is nothing (and I mean NOTHING) that we could not accomplish in the interest of freemen everywhere. Period. What is it, that stands in the (our) way?

Have we yet to recognize the peril that may await us? A space rock hurtling towards us (as they have been lately) or Islamofasists taking the 6:30 train out of Newark? We've got craters, heavenly created, that could be filled with the bodies of men who have died at the hands of leaders not so 'heavenly' in their ambitions.

Here's the hard part: We, the people of the United States must stand united against those who would try to dis-unite us and defeat us via seduction with half-truths, because we are a people who demand the full truth as our birth-right. Freedom and Liberty become fighting words when they're not given due respect.

We've probably not yet seen just how dis-jointed the noses of those calling us 'infidels' may be, but I suspect it could get uglier from here on out. Any sign of weakness is an invitation. Whether Democrat or Republican, when this red-tide starts lapping at our shore I'll be damn disappointed if we don't all suddenly become Americans. Arm-in-arm I doubt there's a threat we could't repel, but if it's a bar-room brawl, all bets are off.

Thank you so much for all the good work! Your statement expresses exactly what I feel, item for item, no deviation. I've saved the front page in order to save others from the madness of liberalism, and to bring them to conservatism.
