Zell Miller, Democratic Senator from GA, has been an outspoken supporter of President Bush. This does not sit well with many of his fellow democrats who have made it a fulltime job of late to bash President Bush with as much fervor as attacking sharks that smell blood. Because of this, Senator Miller has earned kudos and words of praise from Republicans who wish he would change his party affiliation. Even though many believe that Senator Miller makes a better Republican than Democrat, he is merely the embodiment of a dying breed - the true Southern conservative Democrat of days gone by.



From Zell Miller's Official Biography Page:

"Born Feb. 24, 1932, in Young Harris, Georgia, Miller followed his parents' footsteps into the teaching profession and into politics. He was raised by his single mother after his father died when Miller was only 17 days old.

"Miller gets his work ethic and his appreciation for the arts from (his mother,) Birdie Miller, an art teacher and one of Georgia's first female mayors. She hauled stones from a mountain creek to build the family home that Miller still lives in today.

"Though he never knew his father, Stephen Grady Miller, Senator Miller followed in his father's footsteps by becoming a University of Georgia graduate, a history professor at Young Harris College and a state senator.

"As governor of Georgia from 1991-99, Miller gained national prominence for passing the nation's first two-strikes-and-you're-out law against violent felons, for starting the nation's only voluntary pre-kindergarten program for 4-year-olds and for creating the nationally acclaimed HOPE scholarship, which has transformed education in Georgia and which many other states have sought to duplicate."

"SENATOR ZELL MILLER OF GEORGIA, the nation's most prominent conservative Democrat, said today he will endorse President Bush for re-election in 2004 and campaign for him if Bush wishes him to. Miller said Bush is 'the right man at the right time' to govern the country.

"The next five years 'will determine the kind of world my children and grandchildren will live in,' Miller said in an interview. And he wouldn't 'trust' any of the nine Democratic presidential candidates with governing during 'that crucial period,' he said. 'This Democrat will vote for President Bush in 2004.'"

Zell Miller himself recently gave a speech that had to have knocked the socks off of some of his fellow Democrats. Some gems from his Senate floor remarks given on 4-6-04 and titled, "A House Divided Cannot Stand":

"After watching the harsh acrimony generated by the September 11 Commission - which, let me say at the outset, is made up of good and able members - I've come to seriously question this panel's usefulness.

"I believe it will ultimately play a role in doing great harm to this country, for its unintended consequences, I fear, will be to energize our enemies and demoralize our troops."



Later on, he also stated:

"Can you imagine handling the attack on Pearl Harbor this way? Can you imagine Congress, the media and the public standing for this kind of political gamesmanship and finger pointing after that 'day of infamy' in 1941?

"Some partisans tried that ploy, but they were soon quieted by the patriots who understood how important it was to get on with the war and take the battle to America's enemies, and not dwell on what FDR knew when."



The plain-speaking Senator also had this to say:

"Every administration from Jimmy Carter to George W. Bush bears some of the blame. Dick Clarke bears a big heap of it because it was he who was in the catbird's seat to do something about it for more than a decade. Tragically, it was the decade in which we did the least."



He really let loose on the lying loser Clarke with this:

"In the 1990's is when Dick Clarke should have resigned. In the 1990's is when he should have apologized. That is when he should have written his book. That is, if he really had America's best interest at heart."

Zell Miller is not only a friend and avid supporter of President George W. Bush, he is definitely a friend and strongly outspoken supporter of the United States of America.

Yep ... it's the middle of the night! LOL

I've gotten into a strange habit that is hard to break.

Eight or nine is too early to post Amy's Place, so I take a nap for a few hours. Whenever I wake, I post the thread.

Isn't it kind of early for work? Isn't it 4:30 your time?

.45MAN and I have worked it out with our respective companies to go in around 6 am. He leaves for the day around 3:30 in the afternoon and I leave between 4 and 4:30. No Atlanta traffic to deal with (although we only live within 2 miles of where we work) and we have the evening free. I like it.

My sister does what you do - naps when she gets home from work, then she's up all night. I need to try that sometime - I miss out on all the West Coast fun here at FR!

Good morning dans! God bless Zell Miller, indeed! I've always liked him. Thanks for the tribute.

My husband & I are early risers,too. He goes in early to work although I wish he got off early like you guys. It sounds like ya'll have a great set-up at your respective jobs.

My mornings go as follows: feed dogs, let dogs out, let dogs back in, feed hubby breakfast, see him off to work, freep, let dogs out, freep, let dogs in,freep, let dogs out....repeat as necessary. :-)
