Geragos deconstructs prosecution's case against Peterson

Defense attorney: Fetus was born full-term therefore defendant's not responsible for murders

By Jason Dearen, STAFF WRITER

REDWOOD CITY -- Scott Peterson is a cad not a killer, his defense attorney said Wednesday as he began an assault on the very essence of the evidence against Peterson -- when his wife and child died.

In the scenario cast by attorney Mark Geragos, the child was born alive weeks after Christmas Eve 2002, the date prosecutors say his mother, Laci Peterson, had been killed.

"If this baby was born alive, clearly Scott Peterson had nothing to do with this murder," Geragos explained to the six men and six women of the jury. .......

Peterson's lawyer attacks investigators' work

By Brian Anderson

CONTRA COSTA TIMES

REDWOOD CITY - Saying Scott Peterson was "stone-cold innocent," defense attorney Mark Geragos blasted the police detectives Wednesday who investigated the murder of Laci Peterson and the thin case he said they cobbled together against her husband.

In his first chance to lay out his side of the case, Geragos said Modesto police believed early on that Peterson had something to do with his wife's Dec. 24, 2002, disappearance and they worked to prove only that. Through slipshod detective work, lies and far-fetched theories, they built a laughable case from circumstantial evidence that led to the prosecution of an innocent man, he said.

"The evidence is going to show beyond any doubt that not only is Scott Peterson not guilty.""......

REDWOOD CITY -- The same gravity that is holding together the "12 galaxies" apparently had enough pull to draw San Francisco's eccentric sign-toting icon, Frank Chiu, and others looking for a little collateral publicity, to the Redwood City Courthouse on Tuesday for the start of the Scott Peterson murder trial.

Parked near the courthouse in a van covered with biblical and anti-abortion messages, Ronald Brock of San Diego sought attention for his message that killing an unborn child, through abortion or any other means, is a crime.

"Murder is murder, give Conner justice," read a banner on the van. Conner was the name Scott and Laci Peterson planned to give their unborn child before a pregnant Laci disappeared in late 2002. Her husband is facing two counts of murder for their deaths.".....

Geragos: Peterson didn't do it

1:23 p.m., PDT: REDWOOD CITY - Scott Peterson had nothing to do with his pregnant wife’s murder - and his legal team will prove it, defense attorney Mark Geragos declared dramatically this morning during his opening statement.

“The evidence is going to show clearly, beyond any doubt, that not only was Scott not guilty, but stone-cold innocent,” Geragos told jurors.

Peterson, 31, of Modesto, came under media and police scrutiny after Laci Peterson vanished Dec. 24, 2002. But Peterson had no opportunity to kill her and their unborn son, Conner, Geragos said.

Evidence will show the baby was born alive, the Los Angeles lawyer announced in a series of revelations. They include:

Laci Peterson knew that her husband bought a fishing boat shortly before she vanished - and “was in the boat Dec. 20.”

The Petersons didn’t talk about the boat, even during......

I don't think they found ANY of the buckets! Never heard that they did, at least.

As for his having made the anchors ahead of time... maybe, but would he have left the little ring impressions of cement dust? Those were still there when the police first visited his warehouse, which leads me to believe they were recent dust.

I asked you that because I have heard this before. No disrespect to you I want you to know that people in California (I am a Los Angeles native) are very much mixed politically like the rest of the country. Yes, the state leans left primarily because it has a lot of immigrants.

I hope that when people diss California that huge numbers of Republicans live here ... California is a proud part of the United States and I am proud to be a native.

Thank you very much. :-D

We are lucky--I'm sure we are the only forum discussing this that has a traffic expert on hand!

It really, really doesn't sound like he had time to get home when he says he did. Couple that with Karen Servas' memory that his truck was NOT in the driveway at a time when he says he had already arrived home.

Before I go I'm just gonna drop a tidbit on ya. On Websleuths there is an article and a longtime poster. This longtime poster I read before. She has a friend IN the Modgesto department. She cannot say what but she has said " YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT THEY HAVE"!! Part of it has to do with the vieo from the side scan sonar. Also, they definitely DO HAVE 2 of the anchors. This girl CANNOT say what the evidence is but it will be testified to and it is going to sink the Defense like a rock. It's really intriguing. Also, there is another link regarding the scarf that matched Laci's outfit that she was wearing at Salon Salon Dec. 23rd. We have heard NOTHING about that have we for a long long time. Well it IS going to play a part. What part I don't know and what the "other" evidence is, I don't know. I just know that I am eagerly awaiting this to be exposed. Remember, Distaso has quite a few "experts" in different fields set to testify. AND IT IS OFFICIAL - Cyril Wecht has REFUSED to testify for the Defense because of his examination of the evidence. That restores my faith in him at least. Good night sweet freepers. See ya tomorrow. CO!!

Aha! You see it too! If this supposed mention of meringue occurred AFTER 9:30, then Scott's just called himself a liar if he said he heard it--b/c he also said he LEFT at 9:30!!

Bunny I correspond with a LOT of Conservative Californians. My point was simple. I KNOW that CA is a very Liberal state and pool to pull jurors from is what has worried me. I did hear that San Mateo, Modesto, etc. are much more educated and more Conservative. I hope that is so. I know Geragos tried furiously to get to LA for an obvious reason. BUT it does worry me that Jurors would or could possibly show ANY affect towards Scott Peterson who is by most accounts, disgusting!! Let's leave it there.

Man, DA, you sucked that idea right out of my brain!!!

I've been thinking that since I heard that Geragos played the tape.

If he said the sun was shining, I wouldn't walk out the door without an umbrella!

I also agree with the idea to see exactly *when* in the program Martha said the word, if indeed, it was said on the 24th.

OK, but our verrdicts have nevertheless been in line with the norm ... even with the lefties. Don't worry, I've bashed Canadians from time to time. :)

LOL - I come from a Country that I am very ashamed of. I am just fortunate to live in a Conservative part which suits me fine. Lastly, I think we can lay a lot of the blame for these "celebrities - GAG" on the media. They attempt to influence elections AND the Judiciary. Hear the deafening silence of the NOW hags??? Laci abused but because of the baby - dead silence.

The first Menendez jury, where they hung up, didn't exactly warm hearts!

Alas, the poor orphans ran out of money for the retrial... and the court wouldn't allow Leslie Abramson to withdraw (though she wanted to, having helped use up all their money) and... they finally got what they deserved.

Don't forget the first Menendez jury where pathetic, lonely-hearts fools were "falling in love" with those ugly Menendez brothers, and they ended up with a hung jury. Gag!!

I'm thinking that must be the answer: since there are various answering/voicemail services that are really not attached to a particular phone. That must be it, thanks!

I've never heard anything about a scarf. I've thought all along that he strangled her or smothered her. There is no way he could have stabbed or shot her and been able to clean up all the blood.
