I would not have been strong enough, like Nancy, was, to say goodbye at the casket that many times--in Calif. at the library, at the Capitol, and again in Calif, right? Was there another time?
President George Bush (R) waves to photographers as he walks the beach with (L-R) Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern, German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and French President Jacques Chirac during the G8 summit
***It looked to me that the President said to Laura, "Let's pray," before they bowed their heads.***
I think he did, too. The class those two showed all week really touched me. I know it's their nature, but they made sure it was about the Reagan's, and the public people, not about them.
Look at that picture--the public is still there, no one announced the Bushes, the stayed less than a minute, so they didn't disrupt the crowds who wanted to pay their respects. I bet a lot of people didn't even realize it was the Pres. and Laura because it happened so fast.
*** it's fun having popcorn to throw at others****
I'd like mine with REAL butter and a sprinkling of parmesean cheese, please . . . I'll be waiting . . . :-)
Does Mulroney have a voice like velveted mahogany or what?
French President Jacques Chirac laughs during a bilateral meeting with President Bush June 10 on Sea Island, Ga.
I also enjoy the practice to keep my J skills fresh, distilling information for publishing.
Thank you for the dose, GEM. I was beginning a meltdown. I watched the DC funeral from the office, via streaming YAHOO. Was only embarrassed when my boss came in to talk to me and I was in tears. Everyone in the office was streaming it.
And I enjoyed the Funeral West too. I lived in the area for many years, so it was fun to see the scenery again.
I was up until the wee hours that night watching the DC funeral again. I had missed the full impact of W's eulogy, so had to do that. I'm all funeraled out.
What I most enjoyed was the Reagan children eulogies. You know, they had a REALLY, REALLY long day.
I was so proud of the Bushes all week. And was really happy to see the Clintons and the Gores seated amongst all of our side. Must have taken the fun out of the event :)
Most hideous sight of the day was the Clintons nodding off during the funeral. Just more disappointment and shame. Glad it was captured for all time.
I thought Ron Jr. spoke eloquently and was surprised that Patti's was so simple. Michael's was....Michael.
Sure hope they all had a good night's sleep. It was a very stressful day.
RIP, President Reagan. You gave me hope when I had lost all hope and did not know it.

I'm a writer too, and should work on writing better posts--but usually I'm too impatient.
Did you work for a paper? Magazine? Are you still doing it now?
AND also--from perhaps the most magnificant, formal cathedral in the world to one of the most beautiful places in nature I've ever seen, from sea to shining sea, in just a few hours.
And God was clearly very, very present in both places.

And people, especially Americans, who didn't understand what you just wrote, and thought there was 'too much' coverage, are really missing a part of their soul.
I did hear there was a little "hedge" time built in, but no one could have planned for the perfection in lighting, weather, and timing. Or, should I say only One Being could have . . .
Now I know I'll have the perfect thing to watch when I need the release of a good cry, both of sadness and joy.
What a week. I was a vendor at a craft show yesterday, and another lady and I got into talking about how we could not tear ourselves away from the funeral this week. Talk about an emotional week. But I was so proud of the elegant, dignified, perfectly planned and sensitive arrangements made for our wonderful 40th President. And I was as equally proud of our wonderfully elegant and dignified 41 and 43 and their representatives.
Class always tells.
US President George W. Bush poses for a picture with (L-R bottom) Bahrain's King Hamad, Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, Jordan's King Abdullah II and Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and (L-R top) Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Iraqi interim President Sheikh Ghazi al-Yawar.
Find me on the next live thread.. >8-}
Yes, it was open to the public. They opened the parking at 10 am. They said there were about 2500 to 3000 public spectators there.
One of the young college freepers was there.
And here is one from Predident Reagan that I scanned this morning from the Time Magazine commemorative issue. It seems to be the earliest picture available
*** and thought there was 'too much' coverage, are really missing a part of their soul.***
Yes, they are. Part of what made it so wonderful was the joy mixed in with the sadness.
It was sure nice to have a break from all the other news and "news" of the last few weeks.
I can't think of any other time, since she didn't go to the casket at the Cathedral.
It must have been so hard for her.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
I love this President. I love his wife. I love his father and mother. I love this country.
