I almost got my fill of Amazing Grace this week. No I didn't.
Such beautiful renditions too. That Irish tenor was fantastic and, of course, what could be more poignant than the bagpipes--just something about it.
I always gave instructions that someone had to find a bagpipe player to do Amazing Grace at my funeral (so people would be sure to cry--even those who knew me).
They did it for Spock, and for the man my daughter always called Uncle Ronnie, and I want it too.

After the War threads, the live event ones are a piece of cake. ('cept when the 'puter locks up and you have to clear the cache and reboot.)
That day, the timing, the crowds, and so on, was just amazing. I could not believe Nancy had the strength to walk up those steps of AF1 yet again.
And yes, God was in the timing. They said several times while the cars were going from the airport to the library, that things were behind schedule. So having it end as it did, God's hand was certainly there (like we didn't know that in the first place!)

I am going to confess something here though. I only live 35 minutes from the jump site and even though it was open to the public, it was just to hot for me to want to go.
That's bad isn't it?
I know the live threads are fun and sometimes I go back and read them later, but when I'm watching stuff like last week, I just want to watch and not mess with reading or typing posts.
Maybe I'm like Ford--can't walk and chew gum at the same time, but I think it detracts from really taking in momentous occasions to be on the computer.
There were so many touching moments, and many moments that showed how wonderful, and caring, our President and First Lady are.
I can't think of a single very favorite moment, as there were so many. I did tape everything; the funerals I taped on two different channels! (FOX had the best--IMO--commentary or lack thereof, but MSNBC often had the best pictures). My husband hasn't watched the Calif. funeral yet so I'm sure I'll be watching it wiht him.
I think my favorite part of the whole week was the unabashed, unashamed inclusion of God, faith, religion, prayers, etc. included in every part of it--just how it should be.

I started to cry all over again when that flag was presented also.
By the time Nancy was at the casket for the final time, the nation was probably sobbing all over again also.
God Bless Nancy for allowing all of us to be there, even at that point. She didn't have to allow us there, but she did.

The hymns . . . I just loved the hymns. Played/sung sooo beautifully. Old hymns I've known as long as I can remember!
Here's what I heard about the Irish Tenor--he had done some work with Nancy on Alzheimer's--research/getting money/ something. And at one time he said to her, "If there's ever anything I can do let me know." And after Pres. Reagan died, he got the call to sing at his funeral.
It is really wonderful that MD Anderson renamed the pedi center for Robin Bush.
That was a very sweet thing to do.
I don't know if ya'll know anything about that hospital, but it is one of the very top cancer centers in the nation.
It looked to me that the President said to Laura, "Let's pray," before they bowed their heads.
The spectre of the past giants who worked for America's freedom looming behind this scene is awesome.
RE: Live threads--my biggest problem is that the computer is in a room across the house from the computer . . . soooo . . .
I just couldn't tear myself away to check out the threads and comment except for between events, then when I'd come back after the next event, there were another thousand or so posts so I just gave up.
In my next house, my computer will be by the TV!
No, it's not bad at all. Seemed to take forever for them to get around to it, and I was at home in the air conditioning! You probably got a better view on TV anyway. I'm kind of surprised it was open to the public! Neat that a lot of kids probably got to go.
I kinda have to agree, considering they were "officially" 45 minutes late getting to Simi Valley. (My personal thought: The hedge time was originally built in.)
Maybe President Reagan wanted one last Hollywood Entrance: Fashionably late. 8-)

I'm glad she allwed us all there the whole week. Even tho it was painful for us, I think it will help with the grieving process. And hopefully will give us renewed appreciation for those we love, and for our country.
