'60 Minutes' Documents on Bush Might Be Fake

(CNSNews.com) - The 32-year-old documents produced Wednesday by the CBS News program "60 Minutes," shedding a negative light on President Bush's service in the Texas Air National Guard, may have been forged using a current word processing program, according to typography experts. Three independent typography experts told CNSNews.com they were suspicious of the documents from 1972 and 1973 because they were typed using a proportional font, not common at that time, and they used a superscript font feature found in today's Microsoft Word program. More to Come

That's the first organization I worked in when it was just DCS/Plans and then a short time later it became Plans and Programs. Small world! If I remember, you guys were right outside the Command Section on the 2nd floor.

Carbon copies were fuzzy on the yellow (we used yellow for the file copy) and when making a copy of one it was much fuzzier then these.

...that cinches it no friggen typewriter could make the same document,,,,another dead giveaway is the centered letterhead in the same font which is impossible to do on a typewriter.. They would have used preprinted letterhead back then also..

My question would be if they are such sloppy forgeries, then how could the Dems be so dumb and think that they wouldn't be caught?

The fact that they are such blatant forgeries makes me a little cautious, this may be getting too much free publicity for my liking

All you guys, and ladies, who served during the time frame of these "documents", get out your discharge papers and compare the fonts used back then. You can post your observations and see if ANY of them look anything like the ones CBS showed as authentic.

I got out MY discharge papers and noticed BIG differences, like the numbers 2 and 4 and the overall look of the type spacing, but I was discharged in 1962, so we need a comparison of the correct time frame.

You could scan a section, which doesn't give revealing information about yourself and post it on this forum and compare with each other, to see if there is any differences.

It still couldnt do superscripts in a smaller typeface plus the dead giveaway that its a forgery is the PERFECTLY CENTERED and typed letterhead. It is so difficult to perfectly center 3 lines in seccession that for routine correspondence like this, there would have been PRE-PRINTED letterhead,,,with a P.O. Box for an address, (very strange),,
instead of the completely typed out forgery that was shown.... a crude forgery for political purposes no doubt in my military mind.

Was in the military and we had preprinted forms for everything never started with a blank sheet of paper, here we have a blank sheet....LOL

Maybe, it's time to go back and look at ALL of Kerry's military "documents", there MAY be something interesting THERE.

Now Goldberg should have more than enough material for his next book.

That's for sure and for a reprinting of this book.....

Al Gore will show up there in a bikini at the loser's speech. Al must have finally realized he was a woman trapped inside of a beta male's body.

Thank you so much for all your kind words and encouragements! Indeed, Freepers are awesome when they engage to research. It is an honor to be part of this team.

Thanks, fellow FReeper, for the links provided in post # 36! That was GREAT fun! BIG user of Allegra here (damp, humid climate) so I went to Aventis to respond. I did not like divulging all of the personal info before it would allow me to submit to the site, but they can check it out; it is legit, and they can verify it through purchasing records (as if they will have the time to do so now with the flood of responses....)

Basically I asked why they supported the networks, or if they would continue to do so in light of today's breaking story. Then I asked, (even though it was not among the 'menu options'), that they respond publicly to the controversy today rather than via an anonymous email to my *required* email address. Without the personal email address the site would not accept my entry. However, I followed with a message that even if by private email, their response would be shared 'widely.'

Guess I will be in touch, FReepers, with additional information once I have the 'official' (panicked) response....

>>I assure you, NO ONE in the guard or Air Force was using a photostatic copier to prepare file copies of these documents in 1971-1973.

Careful with that one. Dad was at the Pentagon in that time frame, and I have a jokes binder from that era that was generated on early Xerox machines there. The early version of the joke email list was for guys to run 4-5 copies and hand them to their friends.

When were you there? We had Gen Estes (a really nasty person) when I got there, then Gen Marquez (a really great guy) as DCS/Plans and Programs while I was there. We were about halfway down buiding 262, second floor, right across from the Credit Union.
