BushGuardaugust1 memo - a FAKE
CBS, self | 9/9/04 | Carl Donath

Posted on 09/09/2004 2:09:48 PM PDT by ctdonath2

Proof the CBS document BushGuardaugust1.pdf is a FAKE:

Original text, slightly adjusted for rectangular fit:

Same text, screen capture of document written in MS Word 2002 with no effort to match original aside from document width:

Overlapping images, with original as B/W negative:

Aside from slight warping presumably due to distortion introduced by a low-quality photocopier, the two texts line up exactly. The "30+ year old proof" against Bush is a fraud.

Did you or your Dad own an IBM Executive? If so, did you have to type the sentence twice, as I've heard, to get it to font space proportionally?

Yes, I am listening. Actually, I am also listening to Larry Elder. During the height of impeachment, I had on two radios and the TV.

I was so impressed, Fox News had a producer create this doc on Microsoft Word and they confirmed the docs match *exactly*. What were the chances given they were "created" over three decades apart?

Hugh Hewitt says he absolutely believes these are fakes and CBS needs to act NOW to stop the story they started.

Yes, I wonder who's been lurking among us? Hee hee. I was going to be severly disappointed if the questions of authenticiy weren't mentioned. I was getting nauseous watching the donkey's fling dung all day.

I am embarrased to admit as much as I thought I had read about Pres.Bush I didn't know all the info in Byron York's article today.

Oh Lord, Gore is on TV. I have to go throw up now.

One thing is clear, 60 Minutes didn't have even a minimally-competent document examiner look at this thing.

Which is why they won't release those examiner's names.

They are two different fonts. Look at the lowercase "t" in each example. One is curved; the other is not."

That certainly appears to be the case.

To your knowledge, were any of the letters in MS Word default font modified in subsequent versions to accomodate new functionalities?

In your opinion, are there plausible explanations for all the other peculiarities in these "documents" that have been noted in various FR threads (eg. the superscripted numerals, the "i" tucked under the preceding letter, the conjoined letter pairs, the proportional vs. mono font, the marginal justification with no hyphens and a perfect match to MS Word default example, etc, etc)?

Does one need to be a professional with a sheepskin on the wall to see what is plain to the eye, to draw common sense conclusions from what one sees? What was Michael Faraday's educational background? Edison? Shall I continue?

Agreed! Brit's show is the ONE show I try not to miss, because he's good at getting to the bottom of things.

Oh--he just mentioned that the panel will discuss the "documents."

LOL on the multitasking!

Hewitt is a careful law professor and Shiver is a careful forensic document expert.

Bottom line - CBS is BUSTED!

This will be the end of 60 minutes if true. This is the kind of investigation that any skeptic worth his salt would have done before going on national TV. Clearly CBS wanted to run with this story without bothering to run any checks.

CBS is toast. Kerry is toast. Two birds. One stone.

We can thank Bill Gates for this one.

The panel (on Fox) will discuss it next. Should be interesting. The libs may be a little on the pale side?

I really hate to point this out, BUT Microsoft Word puts the superscript "th" in the text so that the top of the letters is in line with the rest of the text. The CBS "original" uses text of the same height but positioned with half of the text above the top of the rest of the line. That shows up as a blinking effect in your animation.

I seen text like that before, but not in a word processor. It was something like "Mathcad" so you could print up complex formulas. Not very likely to be used to intentionally stick a red herring into a forgery.

Regards,
GtG

I went to Little Green Footballs, the weblog where others were posting the two images side by side, which I (as a seasoned professional) found disconcerting.

I merely copied their screenshot of the CBS .pdf file, and the screenshot of their Word document and put the two together as a Photoshop .gif file with 6 frames of dissolve (did the dissolve in ImageReady)

Then I posted it to the web.

Just FYI, I was concerned that my original posting on the subject wasn't bulletproof, so I had the mods delete it and I produced the one you see here.

To use one of ole Dan's frequently used expressions, he's probably as "nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs."
