The ongoing controversy over the fake CBS documents and the prominent role played in shedding the light on this by Freerepublic.com has caused an unprecendented surge in new memberships on the website.
Thursday, September 16, 2004 should be remembered as a landmark day for this website. On that day, more new users signed up on Freerepublic.com than on any single day before.

The 390 users signed up on the website eclipsed sign-up spikes caused during other newsworthy events, such as the Florida recount during the 2000 election, and the events of September 11, 2001.
The name of the website has been publicized widely in many media outlets as the source of the first revelation that the CBS memos were forgeries.
According to web traffic tracking site Alexa, Freerepublic.com has shown a remarkable increase in traffic over the last few weeks, as shown below:

I'm one of yesterday's signers. I didn't know about this until the see bs flap. I thought I was a lone voice in the wilderness against the libs, especially the enviros. It is great

Doesn't seem to be much more of a problem than ever.
In any case, there are simple strategies to deal with it
should it become so, like:
* newbies have full mail capability, but are read-only
on articles/responses for the 1st 24 hrs after new account
* then are limited to 3 Responses per day for a week
(no new base articles)
* then, after 8 days, have full capabilities
Or something like that. Many other approaches exist.
Attention also needs to be paid to "sleeper" accounts
set up long ago, but never used for posting.
If a problem is going to arise, it will be a few days
before the election, just as some bogus "surprise"
appears from the opposition. They will want to deny
this site the ability to respond. I presume that
contingency plans exist.

All the trolls are putting up stupid vanites. I would nuke them immediatey for not following the rules.
This is all the more reason for us freepers to stay above the bar in terms of our comments, language, researched contributions, etc. If we are getting this kind of viewer audience, they are just looking for a way to discredit us. One visit to DU and it is obvious the IQ and/or rage level discredits anything they post. Their language is atrocious; their research "isn't" and they are all screaming all the time.

I've been a faithful lurker and poster to FreeRepublic for over 4 years, but I've never Zotted a troll, yet. I,m looking forward to catching one of these beady-eyed creatures under some muddy bridge. FreeRepublic to me is about liberty and truth and this noble country we love. You can generall tella DU type person by their negativity, their hatred, their cynicism and their disgust for anything wholesome, or true, or patriotic. Jim Robinson has done America a great favor by building this site. In all honest, its about time for me to make a contribution to this site. Some friends of mine have and I respect them for it.

We are the amateurs that have rocked the status quo. These merry bands of amateurs, known as Freepers, have shown their expertise at exposing the truth. This forum called Free Republic will supercede the admonishment of the liberal media and conquer all those that oppose us. After all, we are the best in the world.
