Rush talking about bloggers breaking CBS story (Update: Rush, thanks for plugging FR. We love ya)

Cool.

Mod update.
Ordinary Americans have dragged slowly but surely other big institutions to the truth. The big institutions were the last to arrive at the truth and some of them to this moment are still not there.

Now I realize that within this new alternative media there exists some jealosy,. I sense that some people don’t want to give the blogosphere the full credit. They have to parcel it out because every body wants a piece of the action; this is quite normal, this is human nature. The fact of the matter is that it was the blogosphere and it was a couple of sites: Powerline and FreeRepublic. And FreeRepublic has been one of the most impugned blogs / websites in the history of websites by the very institution that has been brought down.

When Dan Rather talked about partisan political operatives, he means those who lurk at FreeRepublic. Who is FreeRepublic, it’s ordinary Americans – liberals look down at ordinary Americans, don’t know have enough decision making power, [?] do the right thing, not smart enough …

You don’t know how much it grates on them at CBS that its something like FreeRepublic or one of their chat rooms or one of the FReepers there or the Powerline … you have no idea that it irritates them that that kind of person brought them down. An average, ordinary untrained journalist that … you just do not know how this irritates them inside. More than the fact that they got caught, it’s who caught them that irritates them.

And, so just as I started out … I was a fad, and I was a liar, and I made it up and I was bad for America and I posed threats to democracy, as the cover of Time said. So now the same things are being said about the bloggers. Fox news has had its turn and we all continue rotating in the criticism carousel of the left.

I wasn't dissing Rush. I was simply stating that it appears that FR is a major resource for his show. One stop shopping, is the way I look at it.

Joel Klein, formerly Executive Producer at CBS, referred to bloggers as "some guy sitting on his sofa in his pajamas...." That's where the phrase came from.

I read this here and I ran in to turn it on...

I feel so validated; it's amazing.

When Rush started talking about FreeRepublic, I turned to my mother and pointed at the radio:

"All these years you've asked me what I was doing on the computer, on 'that' website... THIS is what we were doing. We were saving the Republic!"

disgusted to catch an MSM reporterette on Keith Olberman's show the other night, in dissecting Rathergate, referring to FReepers as radical .. painting the picture that we are scary or dangerous people. I wanted to smack her up side the head.

Well, see, you ARE scary or dangerous!

I wasn't dissing Rush. I was simply stating that it appears that FR is a major resource for his show. One stop shopping, is the way I look at it.

I understand that-and I was pointing out that we are on a 24 hour news cycle here and Rush is not-he is on for three hours a day.

Many of our stories , cauled from articles and opinions published while Rush is off the air, appear here first.

Rush has been on the air for for a long time, far longer than this FreeRepublic.com has even existed and would continue to well without us, but we compliment his efforts to enlighten America.

If he does use our site for a way to assess conservative opinion, that is great, and even if he pulls news tories from us, that is great--but I am certain Rush has hundreds of other sources to pull from....together we ALL COMPLIMENT EACH OTHER!

I recorded a MP3 clip of this segment of the show. It's here. Let me know if it works or not.

Someone else might want to store it on their site in case mine can't handle the traffic.

"I was disgusted to catch an MSM reporterette on Keith Olberman's show the other night, in dissecting Rathergate, referring to FReepers as radical .. Sure hope other FReepers saw it and got her name .. I think her first name was Barbara .. but I'm in a tizzy packing ..and didn't get it all." ~ STARWISE

I not only saw it, I have the whole interview on videotape. She is not a "reporter". She has her own blog which are published on DU, as you will see referenced here: http://www.ruminatethis.com/archives/000209.html

See my comments below, and also a link to her web site.

Freerepublic is "Radical" says MSNBC guest, Buckhead mentioned MSNBC ^ | 9/21/04 | http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1222090/posts
[snip]

My post:
Tonight on his program "Countdown", one of Keith Olberman's guests was Barbara O'Brien, author of a new book entitled, "Blogging America".

Internet bloggers and the Dan Rather/CBS flap was the subject.

They talked about "Buckhead" while Olberman mentioned "Free Republic" and showed his picture with his real name under it - explaining that he had been "outed" by the L.A. Times.

In the last minute of the interview, while Olberman showed Free Republic.com on the TV screen, O'Brien said, "Free Republic is a radical web site."

She said that when the Dan Rather memo thing first broke she had made certain comments about it on her web blog, but eventually had to shut it down because some people were coming there and posting obscenities on it. She said, "Thats the way people who don't like George Bush are being treated these days."

Here is her website: http://www.mahablog.com/
