Hi, Gabz - we've been having slow, drizzling rain off and on for 4 days. (NOT complaining!) I feel so bad for those who've been hit so hard by the hurricanes this season. :(

Think Together

Read: Philippians 4:4-13

If there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. —Philippians 4:8

Bible In One Year: Isaiah 5-6; Ephesians 1

An executive of the world's largest toymaker said, "We are such a machine in terms of what we deliver on an annual basis that it doesn't allow time to think."

In an effort to stimulate creativity, this company is taking selected employees out of corporate headquarters and encouraging them to think together in new ways. For instance, when asked to devise a method to prevent an egg from breaking if dropped from 14 feet, one group went beyond the conventional approach of trying to cushion its fall and created an egg bungee cord.

What about us? Are our lives so focused on activity and production that we don't take time to think? In Paul's letter to the Philippians, he told them to meditate on things that are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and of good report (4:8). What would happen if we began this kind of thinking together in our churches and homes? Might we discover creative, God-given approaches to problems that seem to defy solution? Would our perspective on life undergo a radical change?

"Meditate on these things" is a great command. Obeying it with our families and other believers could open doors of discovery for helping others, serving God, and living for Him. Now that's something to think about! —David McCasland

Lord, help us to think of the right and the true,
The pure and the noble—it all points to You;
For if we consider what's worthy of praise,
We'll then want to live for You all of our days. —Fitzhugh

Right thinking leads to right living.

I know what you mean about the hurricane victims. Up here in Toronto the last few days have been picture perfect weather. Cloudless skies with temperatures in the 70s which of course contrasts greatly with Florida but come January and February its snow cold and slush while they get the postcard weather.

Up here in Toronto the last few days have been picture perfect weather.

Ah, the ideal life for a 'fair weather' person would be to have a getaway home in various parts of the country and move there at just the right times to avoid unpleasant weather elsewhere. See, I could live (I think) happily with about 70o weather year-round. LOL

FRIZZ CITY in my case!!!!!!!!

The wind is really starting to kick up now (sustained over 20 and gusts of 40) but no rain ........ looking at the radar, it sure looks like I've dodged the bullet once again with the storms.

FRIZZ CITY in my case!!!!!!!!

You, too?!!!! I always wondered what it would be like to have sleek, straight, silky hair, which I can only get with the help of a large curling iron, but go outside when there's a little humidity, and it's all for naught. :)

don't get me started about sleek silky hair!!!! Grass is greener on the other side thing, you know?

OTOH I can curl my hair and it will hold it's curl for days!!!!

I saw your comment about it being quiet, I've been paying attention to the weather most of the day, in between cleaning the daughter's room and now I have to nice gentleman in her room constructing the loft bed they just delivered!!!! I'm also now watching the clock because the school bus will be here shortly!!!!! And of course hollering at the poor dogs I have locked in my bedroom!!!!

There is one place in the US that is like that sort of and that is Hawaii. You do get the occasional hurricane out there too but probably not as often as Florida. From what I hear the temperature range seldom drops below 60 or much above 80 for most of the year.

I thought about Hawaii when I wrote that - have only been there once, and it was in the summer, but I remember the sand on the beach being so hot there was no way to walk barefoot (not to mention it was like an obstacle course with all the people stretched out on towels tanning themselves!) This was Waukiki Beach - we enjoyed Maui so much more! Quieter and prettier, much less crowded beaches!

We have old fashioned windows in this house, that need to be "restrung" and so it will be far easier to paint them after they have been removed - which is why they haven't been finished yet. Both windows in her room have valances on them (that match her bed set) and I was hoping to find bottom curtains to match, because the fabric I bought for the half curtains really doesn't match well. The set is Disney Princesses, the fabric is Tinker Bell.

Oh well, I guess it could be worse...............

Great job gail. Did you all see pics of the Cincy rally yesterday...45,000 plus! Makes me proud to be from Ohio!

The only problem....the prosecutor from Cincinnati, who was up for re-election, was recently caught in a "sex scandal" with an employee (and yes, he's a R which means he has to step down...while I'm not condoning what he did...if he was a dem he would have been lauded!). Anyway...it was too late to put someone on the ballot so now its a write in race...meaning ALL ballots have to be manually counted which means Ohio returns may not be reported until the next day. Please...not another nail biter...My nerves can't take it!!!!

Back when Clinton was in office, he went to a Yankee`s baseball game.

Right before the game started, George Stienbrenner came up and whispered something to him, and Clinton said, "I sure would!"

He then proceeded to pick Hillary up, and threw her over the wall onto the field.

Stienbrenner came running back and said, "No, No. I asked if you wanted to throw out the "first PITCH".

Hi Dutchess.

Yes, hubby left for Kentucky Sunday morning.

She's thrilled with the new bed. OTOH hand she was thrilled when she got the antique twin bed that was hubby's as a child but decided she hated the "springs" in it. It replaced the "toddler bed" that used the crib mattress.

Yikes, the child is only 6 and this is the 5th bed she has had. I'm 44 and have had a grand total of 4 in my life. I was 24 before I got a bed different from the one I got when my brother was born when I was 2.....and went back to sleeping on that bed 4 years later when I got divorced.

The pictures of that Ohio rally were AWESOME! Man, can he draw a crowd! You know, that alone has to be very telling....and it was like this in 2000, too. *We* knew from first-hand reports here from Freepers all over the country who went to his rallies that there were always thousands and thousands in the crowds to see him. Gore's rallies didn't have that kind of excitement, and there is no way on God's earth I will EVER believe that Gore won the popular vote - not honestly or legally. He just didn't. There can't be that much difference in the electricity generated in a campaign....and the one who couldn't even draw an enthusiastic crowd *wins* the popular vote???? No way. It's that way with this campaign, too. The only way kerry has a chance is fraud, and that is the only thing that scares me when they start to count the votes.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "restrung". ??????

Believe me, I didn't understand it either.

There are actually cotton ropes on pulley's with weights inside the casings of the windows that allow them to be raised and lowered. It's similar to oldfashioned clotheline cord, in fact that is what we have bought to replace them.

The original windows are still in the house from when it was built in the '40s - nothing wrong with the windows, and they are not drafty, but much of the cording is starting to fray and snap.

In order to properly fix them we need to take down all the molding and take the windows out - that's when I'm going to finish painting them because then I won't have the problem of them sticking as the paint dries!!!.

Unfortunately time and weather have not permitted us to even start that part of the project.

I know, I know - WAAAAAAAAAY TMI!!!!!!!

Good!

I know I tend to get long winded, but I'm trying to curb it under certain circumstances because I've gotten slammed for "TMI" a few times recently. Not by any of my FRiends, but by some I have been on the opposite side in a discussion. It appears my effort to be polite and explain that I must leave, as opposed to just no longer responding, is considered TMI.

Oh well!!!

Hi Billie. Love your pledge graphic, beautiful. I have that same problem with frizz :-( I can't style my hair straight, just don't have the knack with blow dryers and curling irons. When I go to the hair salon, I have them blow my hair out straight, it is fun to have a different hair style for a day.

It is pouring here in N.Y., big frizz day and the satelitte t.v. is whacky....high pitched noises that drive Lucy bonkers...so I turned it off
